Johns Bass
"2. As of Monday, Robert Griffin III will start Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts." ...as of Tuesday I most certainly hope not...
manchild157
Hey Guys- Been in San Antonio visiting my daughter as my grandson turned 1 year old. Recorded the game and watched it last night. I haven't checked out everyone's comments yet but I will. Seems we had some pretty defensive adjustments as we started losing players, and seemed to be pretty spirited as they were throwing their bodies around. I did notice Porter had a couple of chances to lay wood on an assisted tackle but pulled up, don't know if he's nursing injuries or he's that soft but already...I don't like his style of play. 5 sacks.....nothing changed there, less than 100 yds passing....is that even possible? Seems that Gruden's taken control of the locker room worked as the defense seemed to play well enough to help them win, Haslett does just enough. Gruden has my vote of confidence on handling Griffin, leave him out there to get the snot beat out of him, pointing out his flaws in public then circle the wagons around the team. More later after I read some comments.
goskins10
Well the Colt McCoy era will begin. Having said that, it's more the end of Griffin's time than a start to Colt McCoys. It's clear for whatever reason Griffin is not working out here. Everyone will have their own thoughts about why, but in the end all the matters is its not working out. I believe this is the absolutely the right thing to do. This is more of Gruden showing the team he is taking charge. He needs to keep the locker room behind him and show them there is life after Griffin. I like it, regardless of the outcome.
manchild157
Hail Goskins- It would be a great step in the direction of our team if Griffin gets benched. Who knows if Colt will give us wins? But I like the ''End of Pampering Griffin Era'' too. Earn a starting spot on the team during offseason and preseason instead of just handing him the keys. Maybe this tear down of Griffin's mindset, the taking away of privileges that other teammates don't have, admonishing his work ethic is part of the process to make him work on his craft in thew offseason. Team needs to approve of his qb guru instead of Griffin selecting someone who praises his every action because Griffin signs his check. Griffin needs to be tore down mentally before he can move forward.
hailyeah1
well guys i have been silent for awhile ,the season is lost our oline stinks griffin is not trusting them making him skidish . griffin on the other hand hasnt had enough time to grasp things in real game time and looks like a rookie .now mccoy has the reigns .he is the most experienced qb we have but why switch if griffin is the future play him to get the experience dont yank him . there seems to be more going on here than meets the eye. i say just gear it up to fowl up the cowturds when they come to town and lose the rest so we can get some high draft picks we're toast this year . There is no if: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000434557/article/redskins-planning-to-start-mccoy-over-rgiii-on-sunday Adam Shefter broke it last night but all the agencies are crying it. So I was talking not from a "what if" but it's real. the time is now. I for one am glad he is benched. I was a big supporter but it's clear it's gone south. I hope he gets a chance somewhere else and does well. But he is done here IMO. More importantly, the team needs this to heal the locker room. The guys needs to see no one is untouchable and that jay is willing to do what it takes to make the team better.
manchild157
Goskins- I just saw that on another site. I congratulate Gruden for making the decision and Allen/Syder for not getting in the way. Now if Snotty nose Snyder will stay out of the way and don't pamper the players maybe we will become relevant as well as competitive. And not just because Griffin isn't starting, it's more of a mindset that if Gruden can bench the golden boy then everybody is created equal. Can't wait for Griffin's presser, I'm sure he will handle it correctly.
Johns Bass
It's Tuesday - RG III is out as the starter. Like I said yesterday - hopefully he'd not start. It was a decision that wasn't too hard to arrive at. Now...bench a coach or three and I'll be real impressed. Really, review the tapes - should not be a difficult decision to come to. Just like the one above.
manchild157
Come on John, I can't tell if you are joking about ''bench a coach or three'' or serious, and in benching I know you mean firing. What coach is going to come here knowing if they have a beat up defense missing players that they could get fired for it. But screw it Haslett has to go!!! Johns Bass
Yeah you be right on all counts ManChild... Well, you can't fire the team so yeah the DC is one. Special teams don't look so special. Although they did hire a guy with an impressive resume - not much in the results department. Maybe they don't have good enough guys but that facet should be much better. Their scouting definitely does have major issues. And there are a lot of coaches that would jump at the opportunity to come to a bad team and fix stuff. Especially if they have nothing to lose - like with the Skins. They really can't get much worse in many areas. There is a lot of talent on this team; it just isn't being utilized properly. Besides, canning a couple of coaches would show that failure is not an option at any level in the organization.
manchild157
Everyone in society/working world has employment because it's performance valued(except Congress). I'm all for making anyone who is employed by the Redskins accountable for their performance. As far as Griffin goes, I've seen articles about trading him during the offseason but I'm totally against that. I still say build this team from the offensive line first, training camp and preseason should dictate what to do with him. Griffin is stubborn, but smart, and I think that this humbling experience could help him to get better mainly because he should see the writing on the wall that he is becoming a backup qb for the rest of his career. So, why would Subway want him as a spokesperson if he's a backup? (ok, that was a joke)
goskins10
Hail Man - I could not agree more. No reason to move any of the three QBs on the roster except maybe Cousins. If it were me, I would use our resources this year and the next rebuilding the lines. In the meantime, let the QB carousel continue and either Griffin will get his collective **** together and emerge a real franchise QB (something I really hope happens, more for him than the Redskins to be honest) or they all continue to be average or less and then you get your QB in 2016 when your lines start to come together. If nothing else Colt can be a good transition QB. Let the other 2 go when their contracts end. Oh and on Haslett? I don't care how well the D played against SF, he needs to go! I am tired of his BS Ds most of the season no matter if every once in a while they play well.
manchild157
I agree goskins. Haslett teases with good defensive games a couple of times a season and that's it! He can't coach a string of good defensive efforts if he tried. I wouldn't let any of the qbs go, just play them as fodder till we can get another and if one of these guys turn out to improve enough to be a starter then we are set and Gruden looks like a genius. And you know somewhere down the line Gruden will be hailed as a ballsy coach for benching Griffin as well as the public lauding of his fundamental inadequecies .
