Gruden or RG3? Whom do you ride with?

  1. 1. If you have to choose between keeping Gruden and cutting Griffin, or keeping Griffin and firing Gruden at the end of this season, what do you choose?

    • I'm in it with RG3 for the long haul. RG3 all the way.
    • I'm in it with Gruden for the long haul. Gruden all the way.
    • I'd get rid of them both.
    • Let's talk about Hazlett instead...

This is the first time I've created a poll so hopefully this works...if not, then just give your opinion in the comments.

For myself, I'm rolling with Jay. As someone who loves Robert and has absolute faith in his talents and ability, I, for one, think that he and Jay are incompatible and that the relationship is already beyond repair. I'd really love to see them patch it up and see both of them begin to live up to their potential but I think that's all but a lost cause.

I'm not going to go into whether or not Robert is coachable or speculate as to whether or not there is a relation between last years season meltdown and this years. I don't think it's that simple and I think there are a ton of factors that contribute, not the least of which was Robert's injury and subsequent rehab. But right now I have more faith in Jay Gruden winning with a new QB in DC than I do in Robert with yet another HC.

Nonetheless, Hail! And a very happy thanksgiving to the entire ES family....

Side note: The Hazlett answer is my little joke and is meant to be a "none of the above" answer.....

Robert has been given the benefit of the doubt. Has had 3 years with the team. 2 Off-seasons to learn. 2 years and some of NFL games. Last year, despite his leg, it was a good time for him to study the game, and build on making his reads quickly. If your legs aren't working, and your O-line sux, you'd think he would focus on getting the ball out. He probably tried hard but isn't able to make the transition. We all gave him a free pass because of his injury.  But he's had his time.

He now is a D-grade pocket passer, with B-grade mobility behind a C-grade O-line.

We wasted years developing Ramsey, then Campbell and now RG3.

I'm ok with playing out the rest of the year with Robert to give him one LAST chance. See if he can do something. But I'll understand if they him so the other players can play well, make their bonuses and whatever else.

If we need another year to build an O-line anyway, then does it really matter who is back there?

Robert should be a backup for a year or two more. He needs to learn how to be a NFL QB. Not an A+ pocket passer, but a at least a A-minus pocket passer. He needs to get some of his "yips" out, fast.

3 situations:

Go with RG. If we fire Gruden then we can get Tom Cable.

He's a coach who loves a good Oline, and we know we need a better Oline.

He has also been at Seattle where they have a RG type quarterback. He can give tips to whatever quarterback coach or offensive coordinator we get about how to train and suit RG.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Go with Jay. He can use McCoy in his west coast offence that he used in Cinci. We get a decent trade for RG. Or a good draft pick if the team is absolutely desperate for a QB.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Get rid of them both. Get a good trade for RG and get a new HC instead of Jay. McCoy will hold for us while we develop a new quarterback.

Most bad teams' issues begin and end in the trenches. Coach or personnel? Foerster boasts impressive rushing credentials, but the 'Skins fail the eye test when it comes to pass blocking. If I were forced to pick, I lean toward O-line depth. I have no confidence in the next man up in Landover.

If this is true, its the second coach, in a row, Robert is incompatible with.

Here's the problem. I know because I've lived it. (on a much lower level) Robert spent his whole career being physically superior to everyone he played against. He never needed to learn the fundamentals of the position required to do it in the NFL. Maybe he blew it off, maybe nobody bothered to teach it because he dominated without it.

That was me in basketball. Spent my whole life a lot faster than pretty much anybody else I played. I played out of position on purpose to bait people to do what I wanted. They/the pass was never really open. I made it look that way and took the ball from people all day, scored at will. Now 47, can't do that anymore. Still trying to play 25 year olds I've had to spend the last 3-4 years playing smart, proper basketball to compete with the young guys.

He is now trying to learn to play the NFL QB position against world class athletes(not the guys I play against) and he is too far behind the curve. He doesn't know how to do it. I don't think its conflict with coaches as much as its the reality setting in with the coaches and Robert. Its not that he can't learn it if he accepts the reality in front of him. Its that he probably won't mentally or physically survive long enough.

Get rid of both. Griffin doesn't look to be an NFL QB the past two games. He's making mistakes that are QB101. Gruden needs to go because you can't destroy your QB in the media like he has last week. Anyone who watched the games know Griffin was bad; the coach shouldn't be killing him either in the media.

Besides handling of Griffin, Gruden hasn't done a good job on the fundamentals. There's always illegal formations, the team leads the league in special teams flags. There are other reasons but I'll leave it at those.

Mike Vick anyone?  Dont get me wrong, I want RG3 to succeed.  I personally like the kid.  However, it seems to me like he just isn't 'getting' it.  I hate the fact that it looks again like the skins bungled another QB choice, but, it looks that way.  What do we do from here?  Now not only do we have fix our Oline and DBacks, we are in the position of once again being a rudderless ship looking for our next QB.  When will it end?

I let go of whichever person made that stupid ass demand.

Because if Jay is willing to toss a QB after he misses almost half the season he's a moron who's not smart enough to coach.

And if RG3 was willing to try to get a first year coach fired when he's in the last year of his contract and has his injury history he's  got way to big an ego and no concern for the team

Give me Gruden. He's like a breath mint inside this mouth full of chronic halitosis. Someone like him has the ability to effect some change. Not totally sure about his football mind yet, but I also don't think we've had a chance to see his offense really run all that well. With competent QBing, it looks like it works to me.

Robert has an ego problem and is on his second head coach both of whom are considered to be QB gurus. His fundamental skills are crap, his footwork sucks, he struggles to read defenses and has little pocket presence. Remember this quote from the beginning of the season? I think it says a lot about his mindset and how he got to this point.

“God didn’t put us on this earth to be normal. So I’m not gonna go out there and try to be a normal quarterback. I’m gonna go out there and be the quarterback he’s called me to be.”

Hows that working out for ya Bob?

Point being, after years of coaches who were afraid to speak their mind we have a young, hungry, talented HC who demands action not words.

Bottom line, if this team were to fire Gruden and keep RG3, I would turn in my fan card until new ownership.
