gortiz
When I ask, as of today looking back, what has been the "biggest" sports scandal in the 2000's, and why? Got to go with gut reaction

Kosher Ham
Baseball was my first thought also. Too many to choose from though.
d0ublestr0ker0ll
steriod in baseball I immediately thought this, then specifically Barry Bonds, and then Roger Clemens.
Morrison J
Yeah. Bonds, Clemens, ARod were my first thoughts If cycling was a more popular sport then Lance Armstrong would definitely be up there. Just one of those few sports I couldn't care less about.. balki1867
Long-term brain damage from playing football -- just wait. Unlike the others, this will have a lasting effect on the sport. (Seriously we all knew baseball players were juicing, and the long-term effects of the PSU scandal are going to be zero)
mcsluggo
am i the only one on the planet that couldn't give a flying **** about steroids in baseball? (other than the basic, "they are unhealthy and should be discouraged, just like tobaccy") to say that the top scandal is anything other than penn state is shocking to me. ......and i'm glad nobody has said michael vick yet... and when the hell did OJ happen ?? I forget???

drtdrums
Baseball. The steroid era destroyed baseball's historical context, and that context is the entire beauty of the game.

I forget??? The second round of the OJ debacle was in the 2007-2008 timeframe (the Vegas hotel room thing). In terms of shock value PSU would definitely be #1, but realistically 10 years from now people are just going to remember it as a thing that happened. Even now, the NCAA is rolling back the vast majority of the punishments and you barely hear a headline about it because we've moved on to being outraged at Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice. The NFL concussion thing isn't as suprising or dramatic as Penn State, but I seriously think its going to have a long-term lasting impact on the game. Remember it was less than ten years ago that ESPN had a segment called "Jacked Up," where they showcased the most brutal hits from each week. Imagine that happening now. G.A.C.O.L.B.
Baseball. The steroid era destroyed baseball's historical context, and that context is the entire beauty of the game. And this for that why. I grew up memorizing all the records. And for folks to cheat and **** all over them... I've said before, it took us getting a team for me to get back into baseball. If it wasn't for the Nats I probably still wouldn't be watching.
CrypticVillain
My initial don't think reaction was Mike Vick Dog Fighting. 2nd was Lance Armstrong.

CrypticVillain
Oh, I forgot to add the why... The thing about the Mike Vick dog fighting for me had less to do with the actual dog fighting, but the various reactions. Then when he got released, everybody wondering what team he went to, and people starting saying they weren't Eagle fans anymore when they signed him. It was a pretty interesting situation. gortiz
yep, you guys are forgetting the "why" I mean not the obvious answer, why you think your choice jumped into your head first? my initial reaction was Tiger ... but how can you discount Vick. I had been in ATL for 17 years when we moved to Savannah for what was supposed to be short-term, ended up being 4 years. The dog-fighting revelation came about when I was in Savannah. All of my friends here were letting me know what was going on, the rallies for his support at the dome, etc...honest to God, the most bizarre &&&& I'd ever seen. I can see rallying around your QB, but damn...when he's complicite in the harming of another living being, whether it be human or not, you gotta draw a line. Destino
What Michael Vick did was organized crime, not simply hurting dogs. By the way, as hated as he seems to be, I bet most people would say they like him more than his idiot brother.
