cleibo2
Orakpo is out again. Because of this, it seems like Trent Murphy is going to see a lot more snaps at OLB. The problem is Murphy has looked like a little kid playing against angry, grown men. Not sure if he'll ever pan out.... What I do know is that he is not ready to play right now. My solution is this: put Kennan Robinson at OLB and play Compton and Riley in the middle. This is assuming that Riley is healthy enough to play. The few times that they blitz Keenan Robinson, he applies pressure. Also he is physical enough to take on blockers and be effective against the run. This isn't ideal but I'm convinced that putting Trent Murphy out there is going to be like putting me out there: I'll finish with a couple half-tackles that I get by default because they ran the ball my way. No pressure, no sacks, and definitely no impact on the game.
ILikeBilly
I finally got to watch the Titans' game late last night. Saw 1 play with Trent involved. It was an outside run. He was occupied by 2 blockers, as the runner approached, he pushed the blockers and easily disengaged. He then drove toward the ball carrier, but missed the tackle. Everything was perfect, except the tackle. However, the runner was forced all the way to the sideline and still lost 1 or 2 yards on the play. Way to go Trent, that is almost perfect linebacker play. Keep up the good work.
Stefanskins
Well, I for one want to see what the kid has... and I understand your trepidation but I've seen flashes of solid play. He may be one of those players that needs to be in there most of the time to find his flow. I'll bet you he gets 2 sacks on Toni..

GhostofSparta
Just so we're clear here: You're saying that we shouldn't start Trent Murphy because of his poor play, but then you advocate still starting Riley?
cleibo2
“Trent’s got to move up, he’s got to step up his game,” said Gruden. “He’s got to play better, he’s got to play more physical at the point of attack. We’re playing against the No. 1 rushing offense in the National Football League." A quote by Gruden on Monday about Trent Murphy.

No pressure, no sacks, and definitely no impact on the game. Are you a 6'5'' 260 lb linebacker? If so maybe you should try to get a try out. I finally got to watch the Titans' game late last night. He was also in on the play where Orakpo got hurt. Drove the TE all the way into the backfield and made the runner change direction. I have seen plays where he has been neutralized easier than he should. I have also seen him occupy multiple blockers on a few occasions, and I have seen him get some good pressure. I can think of two Kerrigan sacks where Trents pressure helped aid Kerrigan in getting those. I for one am excited to see what this kid has. There was a reason he led the NCAA in sacks. Just so we're clear here: You're saying that we shouldn't start Trent Murphy because of his poor play, but then you advocate still starting Riley? I think it is more preposterous that he advocates moving Keenan, the brightest spot on this defense (other than Kerrigan of course) away from one of the most important positions on the field where he is excelling.... cleibo2
Riley has not played well. Point taken. Although, watching Murphy on tape: he sorely stands out on every play by getting dominated from any blocker. And Riley is not that. Riley has looked bad in pass coverage...but so has our whole defense.
Stefanskins
I'll take that action lol How about a gentlemans bet? Trent gets 2 sacks and you change your Avatar to something I pick for a week, he gets 1 its a push, he gets.5 or nada and I change my Avatar to what ever you pick for a week... Of course then again I've never been mistaken for being a gentleman... “Trent’s got to move up, he’s got to step up his game,” said Gruden. “He’s got to play better, he’s got to play more physical at the point of attack. I would say that Amerson has been the next best defensive player after Kerrigan, not Robinson. Keenan has been exposed on pass-coverage multiple times this year against opposing TE's and RB's, which was supposed to be his strength coming in. Stefanskins
The season is over and our team sucks ass. Why not play the rookies to see what we have for 2015? Not being a smart ass. Is the season still over for you if we happen to win? What if, now hear me out, we win, then beat the Vikes and Tampa.. that'd be 5 -5... and 10-6 usually gets u a wildcard.. DC9
"This is a unique opportunity for a spectacular training event." - Samuel L. from Basic What I mean by that, is this give you an opportunity to: 1) See what you have in your draft pick... allow him to develop and learn. Ya'know... that other thing we always **** about. 2) Use the extra roster spot to find a guy who is worth a crap. Remember... when Seattle was building in Carroll's first year, they made over 100 roster moves that season. Let's see some more of those. Find someone who can and wants to play. DC9
Also what was wrong with continuing this discussion in the FA thread? Not all of these things need their own thread... and you'll find that's what is so awesome about this website. We try not to have 9 discussions about the same thing. planter
No, it's Trent's time (tho a bit early). Riley is struggling and Keenan is still learning his current position. One benefit of this type of season is exploring the depth chart :-)
Hail4Life
I say let Trent play. We need to give him significant action to see what he can do. You mentioned Perry Riley but boy, you want to talk about disappointment this year? That boy has been one big let down so far.

cleibo2
Is it his time because we spent a 2nd round pick on him? Other than spending a high draft pick, I haven't seen anything that says he deserves to play starting OLB for the Skins. Again, preposterous. And god knows I am pulling for Amerson, my Wolfpacker. nfl guru
Unless Trent Murphy somehow got captain Ginyu'd with JJ Watts talent, I expect to see a very low impact game on his behalf. I've seen a compilation of his snaps thus far this year and man, the guy is absolutely ghost out there. O-lineman just suck him up and he cant break off Great college guy, great guy off the field apparently, just has shown very little to warrant a starting job in the league. steve09ru
Keenan isn't an olb and has extremely limited practice rushing the QB and playing on the outside. Give Trent a shot to improve and learn.
