Master Blaster
http://thevikingage.com/2014/09/29/washington-redskins-sign-former-vikings-safety-jamarca-sanford/ A seventh round pick in 2009, Sanford developed into a reliable starter for the Vikings. A better run defender than a cover man, he has a knack for forcing fumbles but has always struggled at holding on to interceptions.
Garcon More Wine
hes one of the safeties that griff roasted on that huge run back in 2012 against the vikings. COLOR ME EXCITED!

P13
Crawford I don't mind but bringing in another 29-year old to suck at special teams seems like a waste of a spot. And how did this thread make it to 7 posts without someone doing the "championship!" joke?
PeterMP
WoW, why'd the Vikes cut him? Or was he outta football entirely at the time? Read the piece. He had an injury. The Vikings cut him after reaching an injury settlement, but he's been worked out by other teams since, including the Colts, and passed over. Just what is going to make us better. A 5 year vet that's not good enough to make a bad Vikings team and has been passed over by other teams this year. That just screams up side. Crawford, I can actually live with. skinsfan212689
What an emphasis on special team all year and if players aren’t starters they better be good on special teams.... Why are special teams still the worst part of this team? I thought this new ST Coach was a bad a** and made guys play hard. Only credit I give him is finding one of our most consistent players this year so far in T. Way. Hail

Well at this point in the season the fruit is pretty well picked clean, so not sure why you're upset about this one I understand your sentiment but what you should be asking is why we tied up $100 million I DeSean, Rak, and Hatcher this offseason when what we needed was secondary and OLine help. Hail You know, I'm not so quick to throw in the towel on the Special Teams. The Houston game was a debacle, period. But Philly's Special Teams look like they're having an outstanding year. Based on the Eagles Teams' play in San Fran, I'm willing to give our unit the benefit of the doubt...for now. Let's give it a little more time. darrelgreenie
We needed somebody. I would have preferred the guy in my sig but at least we got someone. Its kinda pathetic that we had all off season to bring in some guys at S but we waited and are forced to scrounge around during the season and ended up signing a guy that seemed to be hurt as soon as he got here and never played a snap. The front office failed at the safety spot both via FA and through the draft. I hope the fans don't kill Sanford because he's being put in a tough spot. For what is worth DG, The Organization's approach seemed to be to gamble on sliding by with the Secondary in place and Draft Safety help in the Offseason. As for the Offensive Line, the Drafting of Long & Moses (in spite of not having a 1st rounder) were aimed at fortifying the Right Side of the line long term. Of course, no one wants to hear this now, but from what I read, Moses should reasonably be expected to start next year. I presume the same goes for Long. Of course with Injuries hitting both position groups, particularly the Defensive Backfield, the Front Office has egg on their face (that D Hall Injury was worst-case-scenario stuff). Bottom line: they gambled, they lost. But I expect this to be the last year we try to get by with this Safety and OL situation.

PeterMP
Well at this point in the season the fruit is pretty well picked clean, so not sure why you're upset about this one I understand your sentiment but what you should be asking is why we tied up $100 million I DeSean, Rak, and Hatcher this offseason when what we needed was secondary and OLine help. First, I'm not sure that you can look at some of the other positions and claim we are in a lot better shape. Without Hatcher and whoever you consider our 2nd best DL what does our DL look like? Take away Jackson and than have Garcon go out for the season with a torn achiles and I'm sure you'd hear a lot of people griping about how thin/bad our WR. (Rak is the one where you could say that you'd still have Murphy, Kerrigan, and could have kept Rob Jackson, and I said I didn't like the direction they were going in terms of the signings the off season). But that doesn't really bother me. I think I was one of the few in the FA thread saying I didn't like their moves. My point is more about not worrying about winning an extra game this year vs. maybe having a guy that will help you win games in 2 years. And yes the pickings are thin, but if I'm working on thin pickings I'll take the guy that actually might have some upside and be in the league in 2 years. Is Thomas healthy? If not, I can find plenty of other safeties that are currently on PS that have been out of college less than one year. Some of them have even gone back and forth to active rosters. I'm willing to bet in 2 years some of them will be contributing on winning NFL teams.

carex
can there be a rule where if the team did more than pick up a seventh rounder and UDFAs in the past two years you can't say the front office did not address the position?
Birdlives
This is the way it works for teams that focus on skill positions and ignore front line players. Our DB situation wouldn't be terrible if we could generate a pass rush, but we don't ever draft d line. Our offense might be sustainable if we ever spent more than one top end pick on o line, but we continue to run middling o line players out hoping one might hit. Don't even get me started on the coaching staff.
