Couple of points on the Ref calls in the game

I was just noticing some mistakes people were making when smearing the refs through the mud. Yes, the refs were pretty bad this game. But....

1. Eagles did not get an extra instant replay. For the play where the fight broke out, the refs called an interception. ALL CLOSE TURNOVERS ARE REVIEWED BY THE OFFICIALS. Philadelphia didn't get a freebie here, it works the same for turnovers as it does for touchdowns.

2. The redskins DB not getting called for a horsecaller on Maclin. This was a good no-call, because even though he did have his hand up in his clavicle opening, he didn't pull him down with that hand.

3. Bakery getting thrown for blocking Foles. Baker was actually thrown for grabbing Peters' face mask and attempting to pull him to the ground with it after Peters threw an open handed punch. Baker was flagged for the Foles hit, and whether or not that was a bad call, he was ejected for what he did after that. The announcers botched the reasoning there when they said it was for the Foles hit, they didn't even replay the face mask.

4. Maclin's sideline catch being called complete. 1 knee = 2 feet. He had possession and got the knee down inbounds just before the elbow was out. That's a proper catch.

Just trying help people understand what the refs were thinking when some of those were called.

You missed the one where the Eagles leveled Cousins on a false start and there was no flag. You missed quite a few holds on Kerrigan as well.

I wasn't making excuses for every single flag, I was simply explaining a few where fans were confused as to why they were called. You missed that part.

Yeah, and that pass interference that gave them a free fifty yards was really bad.  As for the Baker penalty, the ref said that it was for a hit on the QB.  Seems almost every time the D stopped the Eagles they got a free first down.

Prettty crappy.  Some legit calls... some really, really, really bad.   The one on Keenan Robinson was absolute BS and not even close to PI. There was another one that was also just not even close.  Very bad reffing.

Mind you, you can't spell ref without the letter "f" for reason.

Thanks for the info. Where did you get the information on the Baker ejection? And, since Peters threw a punch, isn't that an offense that gets a player ejected?

I thought this was offensive pass interference first on Maclin.  If a defender had done the EXACT same thing against Maclin he would have been flagged.  Refs need to call it both ways.

I agree with you on those points. But what got me mad was how the refs would call illegal touching and PI on us but when Philly would do the same or worse there would be no call. Roberts and Jackson were victims of no calls multiple times. Many block in the backs let go. But overall I think special teams cost us plus the refs on couple drives that moved the eagles downfield.

The rule specifies that BOTH feet must be inbounds whether or not the receiver has control of the ball. Only one foot was inbounds. Incorrect call.

I have no idea what the specific rule says, but in this case, I doubt Fox and their troops were wrong and I doubt the refs making the reversal didn't know and understand the rule.  I am deferring to their professional judgement.

I agree with Riggodrill44 show me the rule where a knee = 2 feet. I'm looking but haven't found anything yet.

The hit by Baker on Foles was a legal hit . If Foles or any qb doesn't want to get hit after they throw an interception then don't go running toward the defender who caught your ball. Run the other way or just stand exactly where you released the ball.

He is not defending the refs. Just explaining on where they were correct and some didn't understand why.

How about the one we get called roughing the passer and yet when Cousins gets hit nothing. In fact I recorded the game and if you put a clock on it you will see Murphy was earlier than the Eagles player...Total BS calling from the refs today. Not to mention all the holding calls on their OL.

COMPLETED OR INTERCEPTED PASS

Article 3 Completed or Intercepted Pass. A player who makes a catch may advance the ball. A forward pass is complete (by the offense) or intercepted (by the defense) if a player, who is inbounds:

(a) secures control of the ball in his hands or arms prior to the ball touching the ground; and

(B) touches the ground inbounds with both feet or with any part of his body other than his hands; and

© maintains control of the ball long enough, after (a) and (B) have been fulfilled, to enable him to perform any act common to the game (i.e., maintaining control long enough to pitch it, pass it, advance with it, or avoid or ward off an opponent, etc.).

Note 1: It is not necessary that he commit such an act, provided that he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so.

Note 2: If a player has control of the ball, a slight movement of the ball will not be considered a loss of possession. He must lose control of the ball in order to rule that there has been a loss of possession.

I am trying to copy and paste from my phone. I don't know what the smiley faces are about.

When Foles went down to the ground because of Baker's hit at the end of the non-interception, the trainers rushed out onto the field and attended to him. Anytime this happens, it is my understanding that the injured player then has to go to the sidelines for the next play, but Foles didn't. That should have been a penalty on the Eagles, but the officials didn't call it.

because of the penalties...thats how the announcer's described it.

you guys actually got lucky on that play - no penalty yardage against you for a cheap hit, AND, we lose our all pro LT and are down to offensive linemen 5,7,8,9,10

I don't blame the officials for the loss, I blame our special teams and also our secondary which was pretty horrible.

The 2 questions I do have though are on 2 plays.

1) The Baker hit on Foles.  I still haven't heard anyone say that the hit is illegal.  I know it is considered "dirty" and I don't disagree with that or disagree that it should be made illegal, but as of right now, today, IS THAT HIT ILLEGAL?  I know Aikman said during the game that the refs "frown upon those kinds of hits" but "frowns upon" does not mean illegal. If technically the hit was legal, why was it flagged? I'm sorry, but in a close hard fought game, you can't throw flags that swing games like that for a hit that is legal. If the hit is indeed illegal though, then nevermind.

2) On the Delay of Game call against the Redskins.  On a play like that where the whistle is blown and play is ruled dead before it is snapped, how in the holy hell is a defender not flagged for sacking the QB?  How is the QB in THAT situation where he is standing there unaware, not considered a defenseless player, especially considering the blockers have stood up and stopped playing.  I understand people are saying that some didn't hear the whistle. I am not saying it was dirty or on purpose, but intent doesn't matter in this case, Cousins was wrapped up and driven into the ground on a dead play.  Why was this not a flag?  It's very possible Cousins gets hurt on that play.
