Dan T.
Another candidate for the Athletes Fall From Grace thread: From the Arizona Republic: Former Suns guard and NBA executive Rex Chapman was arrested Friday and accused of shoplifting more than $14,000 in Apple merchandise from a retail store in Scottsdale. Scottsdale police say Chapman is alleged to have stolen items from the Apple Store at the Scottsdale Quarter on seven occasions in recent months. Apple Store employees told police that Chapman picked up items in the store and made it appear that he was paying for them using a self-checkout system via iPhone app. He would then leave the store without actually paying for the items, they said. Chapman allegedly took the items to a local pawn shop and sold them for cash, according to Sgt. Mark Clark, a Scottsdale police spokesman. The store's estimated loss is more than $14,000. Clark said store managers alerted police to the thefts in August and that multiple employees recognized the thief as Chapman "based on his previous celebrity status as an NBA basketball player." http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/scottsdale/2014/09/19/scottsdale-rex-chapman-apple-theft-arrest/15916617/ Sad story. He had a 12 year NBA career with the Hornets, Bullets (2+ seasons), Heat, and Phoenix Suns. After his playing days, he was a Phoenix Suns director of basketball operations, worked as vice president of player personnel for the Denver Nuggets, and as recently as 2013, he worked as a commentator on NBA and NCAA telecasts. Redskin4ever
I'm also guessing gambling debts. It's really sad the way some athletes burn through money. There are so many different ways they do it, but it's usually sad when they do.
