nonniey
So what is the boards take on todays vote? I'm half Scottish and I know my Grans are turning over in their graves at the very idea of leaving the UK. The Yeahs and Nays like to point out what will happen in the future, but I like to say look at the past. The UK is the most successfull union of different countries in world history and what have they accomplished in those 400 years (300 formally)? - I'll point out one - They saved the world. Here's hoping for a big "No" victory.

thebluefood
I doubt it's going to happen, anyway. I don't believe they're doing exit polling, but from what I understand, Glasgow and Aberdeen voters are likely to vote no on the issue. I don't know much on the issue, so I don't really know if it would be be best for Scotland to part with the UK, but I just hope things will stay civil regardless of the results. I know Scottish nationalists are pretty hard core about independence and I don't know if they're going to take too kindly to the referendum being rejected, even if the UK promises more concessions. Predicto
Independence for Scotland appears to be a really awful idea from an practical and economic standpoint, but I understand why it has such a strong emotional appeal for so many. Elessar78
I jsut went to The Guardian website. How is the referendum question framed? Scottish Independence. Yes or No? or Stay with the United Kingdom. Yes or No? I assume it's the former.

Duckus
My dad is from Glasgow. My mom from London. They immigrated in the 80s. They both have mixed feelings about it. I think they practically know it is a bad idea, but sorta want it to pass anyhow.

visionary
I like the idea, it is a very romantic notion (and certainty makes for great if somewhat historically challenged music), but practically, it probably would be disadvantageous for all concerned. In any case I don't see it passing. Scotland has never been united over how they feel about being part of England and they still aren't. At best the polls have shown them garnering something slightly over fifty percent, but the latest ones had them at 54% no. So far (I think) every place that's got results out has been a no and some of the strongest possibilities for yes supposedly had a low turnout. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-09-18/live-results-the-scottish-independence-vote.html?x=3 LIVE RESULTS: The Scottish Independence Vote The following is a running total of the vote count in Scotland’s referendum on independence. OVERALL VOTE FOR INDEPENDENCE: 40.8% YES; 59.2% NO And another no http://www.bnowire.com/2014/09/18/live-scottish-independence-referendum-results/ Comhairle nan Eilean Siar – NO 53,42% / YES 46,58% (no: 10,544 / yes: 9,195 / rejected ballots: 19) By the way, just watched the latest two episodes of Outlander to get myself in the mood for the vote, ha ha. Mocountyskins
They should be voting for what they think would be better 20 years from now. Not then immediate impact. Things be be in economic turmoil but if they could recover from that then having real actual power over your population and taxes is just idk really good. The US was dirt poor after the Revolutionary war. They could not pay back any of their soldiers or anyone who bought their war bonds. I know thats a really bad example so idk why I'm giving that example but I'm just trying to say its obvious that the economy is going to take a crap in the immediate future but you have to look past that.
