UK Breakup?

So what is the boards take on todays vote?

I'm half Scottish and I know my Grans are turning over in their graves at the very idea of leaving the UK.

The Yeahs and Nays like to point out what will happen in the future, but I like to say look at the past. The UK is the most successfull union of different countries in world history and what have they accomplished in those 400 years (300 formally)?  - I'll point out one - They saved the world.

Here's hoping for a big "No" victory.

I doubt it's going to happen, anyway. I don't believe they're doing exit polling, but from what I understand, Glasgow and Aberdeen voters are likely to vote no on the issue.

I don't know much on the issue, so I don't really know if it would be be best for Scotland to part with the UK, but I just hope things will stay civil regardless of the results. I know Scottish nationalists are pretty hard core about independence and I don't know if they're going to take too kindly to the referendum being rejected, even if the UK promises more concessions.

I like the idea, it is a very romantic notion (and certainty makes for great if somewhat historically challenged music), but practically, it probably would be disadvantageous for all concerned.

In any case I don't see it passing.  Scotland has never been united over how they feel about being part of England and they still aren't.

At best the polls have shown them garnering something slightly over fifty percent, but the latest ones had them at 54% no.

So far (I think) every place that's got results out has been a no and some of the strongest possibilities for yes supposedly had a low turnout.

They should be voting for what they think would be better 20 years from now. Not then immediate impact. Things be be in economic turmoil but if they could recover from that then having real actual power over your population and taxes is just idk really good.

The US was dirt poor after the Revolutionary war. They could not pay back any of their soldiers or anyone who bought their war bonds. I know thats a really bad example so idk why I'm giving that example but I'm just trying to say its obvious that the economy is going to take a crap in the immediate future but you have to look past that.

Inverclyde, near Glasgow, is the fifth straight No, but by the tiniest of margins - 50.1% to 49.9%.

Despite the narrow loss, Inverclyde vote actually brings the overall Yes share up from 41% to 45%. Still very early going.

Another victory for the independence camp in West Dunbartonshire, 54-46, is greeted with chants of “Yes We Can,” by pro-independence activists in the hall.

That makes the overall count now narrowly in favor of ‘No,” by just 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent.

The results in Midlothian, the ninth council to report, go in favor of the anti-independence camp: 33,972 to 26,370. That 56 percent result for the ‘No’ camp puts the overall count at 51-49 against independence.
