Thoughts on Cousins and the next few weeks

Just wanted to get opinions of guys on here about a few things :

1. Will cousins be able to sustain his performance in the next weeks or months before rg3's return

2. Was today's offensive productions a combination of jags defense + planning for rg3 or was kirk's play that good?

I'm not attempting to start a war. I believe this is rg3's job but obviously he will be out for a while and I'm curious to others opinions. It was hard to see 10 & 11 go down today. But today was somewhat hopeful with andre's performance as well as the defense.

It also does not hurt that Jacksonville is one of the worst teams in the NFL is not the worst. They were horrible on both sides of the ball. They had so many blown coverages I thought Ramo played for them.... :)

The real tests are the next 3-4 weeks. After those games we will know more about what we have in KC.

I support my team and hope Cousins has a great season. There are definitely signs pointing in both directions and so I will just hope that the positive ones that I've seen are the ones he develops.

I really think that his development will depend on things like the development of guys like Niles Paul who is turning into a cheaper healthier version of what we wanted Jordan Reed to be this year. If he can continue to give Cousins an underneath checkdown option then I think our passing game will become a lot more fluid than it was at the end of last year without Reed. But here's hoping for the best.

Even with an excellent design and scheme, I don't feel Jacksonville would have been able to contain us today regardless of our QB situation. We came out hot and determined. I enjoyed the play calling, other than the few helu plays when almo should have been in IMO. But even the butler needs a breather I guess.

I'm just interested/concerned as to what our division opponents will be able to do knowing that 8 will be our starter. I'm almost positive that changes the plan.

But even with the change in plan, can 8 find a way to produce again like he did this week?

1. I can't see Griffin coming back this season. A dislocated ankle is a minimum three month layoff.

In previous games Kirk was partial to making some poor decisions and throwing interceptions. Today I felt his decision-making was very good indeed. I think the question is whether that will still be the case when the pressure comes and we are behind. Will he try and force it like in the past? Given the quality of opponents coming up I think we'll have a better idea in about four weeks time.

2. Today was a combination of a poor opponent and good Redskins team play all round. Kirk was certainly a vital part of that.

We played a poor opponent at home. That being said for the first time in forever we beat a poor opponent at home like we should of and didn't let them hang around enough to drive down at the end to beat us at the last minute like we have seen 100 times. That cannot be discredited here. As sad as I am about Griffin, I'm anxious and sort of excited to see what Cousins can do.

I don't like the poor opponent argument. How often have we played a poor opponent and played down to their level? The Rams game of 2012 comes to mind, or the Lions ending their winless streak against us, or the Lions finally winning in DC/Landover. Even last week agasinst Houston (who suddenly looks a little better putting up 30 today), we shot ourself in the foot with all the fumbles and the blocked punt and blocked XP. Today we didn't have those mistakes (still a few drops, a bad call on hte DJax noncatch, and way too many penalties). So I was impressed with Gruden's coaching today. If this is the type of coach he can be - getting guys to correct their mistakes - then I think he can be a really good coach.

Kirk is also a part of this. He didn't do what he was known for last year which was being a gunslinger. Today he was more patient and found the open guy. I like this Kirk. If this is Gruden's doing, then I'm all the more happier.

Here's hoping that Kirk can have a year similar to what Foles did last year when he replaced Vick.

I'm with you.

Griffin's health has been a question mark for the better part of his career.  Cousins, has a fantastic opportunity to show what he can do.

From what I'm hearing expect Griff to be out for the year. Saddle up & get ready to ride or die with Kirk. Philly looks be some trash but maybe not the hot garbage the Giants are. Even with game planning, I think we beat Philly next week. But as the sample size on film gets bigger on Kirk look for DCs to bait & confuse him.

I'm sorry folks.. I want Cousins to do well. I love his attitude and approach. But we've seen this before and so have the defenses we're going to face. They are going to game plan for Cousins by taking that short & intermediate stuff away.  Defenses will pressure him up the middle,  just like they did last year. He is a good QB. But today was just the case of a team on a mission. Griffin ran and bomb them in the beginning, then Cousins hit wide open receivers all day!  The Jaguars are an inferior opponent that had no clue what was coming. Everyone else will !

So your source says Griffin is done for the year I take it?

RG3 is my guy but now Kirk has to step up and he did today. So Kirk and the rest of our boys will get cheered on just like they would if RG3 was in the game. It's going to be tough for Cousins over the next upcoming weeks with this schedule but I believe he can get it done. HTTR!

Have to admire kirks humbleness. Definitely a guy you can get behind and cheer for.

Obviously I don't want to think that the team we saw today was because of the opponent.

At the end of the day I extremely enjoyed seeing my team win today. And I'm impressed by the turn around from last week.

Can only voice my agreement with you all. I love Robert, and he was certainly looking good in the first quarter, and this just makes me sick for him. Guy has had such a run of bad luck, and I truly hope he can rebound. Meantime, I'm all in for Kirk if that's what the situation is. HTTR!!!
