jpage520
Heard about this earlier on the No Shave Til A Championship page and saw it in the tweets section. First off, great choice. His little celebration dance gets him in if nothing else. Not to mention having played on probably the best team the Redskins ever put on a field and very arguably one of the greatest NFL teams of all time, certainly one of the most dominant. Does anyone know which game they're going to do the ceremony during? Or has that info not been released yet?

That is also the team’s alumni homecoming weekend.

BleedBNG
He definitely deserves it. I hate to admit it, but all season long I was wondering if he was able to keep up with the kind of passing you would see from a Joe Montana. And would he win the big one? Thanks Ryp for one of the best (so far) season I have ever witnessed from the Redskins in 48 years.
Bantu
Took long enough. Thanks, Mark, for the best ass-kicking fiesta of a season for any Redskins' team ever!
jpage520
Thanks for the response and sorry I didn't catch that. I was worried about taking up a whole new thread but the only thing I saw when I searched was the twitter thread. I figured it would be the "Homecoming game" but I wasn't totally sure. RFKFedEx
Congrats Ryp! Well deserved. 1991 was the best year I've ever had the privilege to enjoy as a fan. Hail! Hopefully they'll remove Wayne Curry to make room.

RWJ
I give a lot of credit to Rypien but dude has some serious talent behind him. He probably had the best "HOGS" offensive line behind him. I remember them forming a horseshoe around him and him being able to count the stars in the sky before he picked the WR he wanted to throw the ball to but hey he took our beloved to the SB and won. That's the bottom line.
jpage520
The defense that year was amazing too. I was too young to have known what I would've been watching. But I've gone back and watched the games from that season and my god that rush was downright scary not to mention the speed in the secondary. Honestly he was just never good again. After that season I feel like every single pass he threw was high. But he STILL deserves ROH because of that season for sure. thebluefood
Well deserved. I know he had a checkered career with his performance, but that '91 season is merit enough for him to be in the ROF. Congrats, Ryp.

Very slow footed and prior to 1991 had major problems with decision making and turnovers. 1991 was the perfect storm for him. We had an insanely good OL and WR corps and we ran the ball as well as anyone in the league. We gave up a league record in terms of fewest sacks. He had all day to throw and he usually had at least one Posse member running free out there. And the dude didn't miss all year. It was like when a shooter in the NBA gets hot from three. He gets the ball and everyone knows it's going in before he releases it.... Ryp would drop back and launch one and I'd say "touchdown" before the camera even panned to where his target was. It was ridiculously easy for him that year. In 1992, things changed. The OL (namely Jim Lachey) got banged up and others started showing signs of age. Gibbs was obviously burning out. Ryp just wasn't the same. Started throwing picks again. Decent year but a shell of 91. By 1993 he wasn't good at all. It was a classic example of seizing opportunity when it knocked. There's a part of me that thinks he actually shouldn't be in the ROF in spite of how great 91 was, but not every QB has HoF years (unless they're HoF) every season, so if I'm being fair, I'd say Mark was pretty good in 90 and led us to a playoff win, was good but not great in 1989 and 92, did lead us to the playoffs. After that he fell off the map for the NFL, it's not like he went on to lead another team for a few years, so I think that hurts his legacy. He was something else in 1991 and could have done far more damage had he or Gibbs been interested in doing what Manning and the Broncos did last year. kleese
I am fine with Ryp going into the ROF. To me the ROF differs greatly from any sort of HOF. When you enter the ROF I think you are getting there based on your contributions to the organization more so than just your on field performance. He was the QB for the greatest single season in team history and he has a SB MVP; even though the rest of his career was so-so, that season alone is good enough for me to think he is worthy of the ROF. He was also very likeable and that never hurts. The one guy on that team that often gets overlooked is Lachey. If you are talking about a small sample, is argue Jim Lachey was the greatest Redskin I've personally ever seen. From 1989-1991 he was absolutely dominant. You could not play LT any better than that. Samuels was fantastic, but Lachey was better. I'd argue Lachey was every bit as good as Munoz, who was the pace setter at that position in that era. And in 1991, Lachey was just unreal. He got hurt in 1992 and that was pretty much it; his window was smaller than most and that's why I don't think he gets the recognition. Probably wasn't dominant long enough for HOF consideration, but if you simply take players at their peak, Jim Lachey was absolutely worthy of Canton. Like I said, ask me the best Redskin I've ever seen and I'd tell you Lachey during that three year span.
SkinsFTW
Dude had a couple average years where we didn't even know if he would continue to be the QB because he was splitting time with guys like Humphries/Williams/Rutlidge, then 1 great season where everything was unicorns and rainbows, he was only sacked 7 times, held the team for ransom the next offseason, then reverted back to 1989 or worse and the Redskins haven't won much of anything since. In 1992 the OL wasn't 7 sacks good, but 23 Sacks over 16 games was still likely top 3 in the NFL. Rypien just was never that good and started throwing 2-1 Int to Td after 1991. Mark Rypien is the football equivalent of your favorite 1 hit wonder. I hope that entire OL is already in the ROF.
London Kev
Congrats Ryp, well overdue. This has brought back memories of a great team, an unbelievable season and SB win. Still gutted that the cowturds ended our win streak though.
Skinsfan1311
Good. '91 was a wonderful, and magic, time to be Skins fan. We sat in section 244,Z(back of the end-zone), and watched as Ryp, Clark & Monk absolutely destroyed, crushed, annihilated and straight ****ed up the Falcons. It was the 2nd most passing yards by a Skins QB, and the most TD passes. It was one of the best days by any QB, for any team, ever. He passed for over 400 yards and 6 TD's. He even ran one in. kleese, Lachey was sitting on the sidelines that day His arm strength and accuracy were very impressive. On those bombs, it appeared as if he reared back and threw the ball straight up in the air. The next thing you know, it was landing in Clark's hands, in full stride. Rypien to Monk was cool...but Rypien to Clark was electric. Ahh...the good old days.... Anyway....back OT....he absolutely deserves to be in, and it's about ****ing time.
