Defense Brings The Pressure In Winning Effort

Recommended Posts

Watched the 2nd qtr at Dulles International last night waiting for our flight back home. When I got home at 1am I watched the 1st qtr., heard about the turnovers, saw the 0-0 tie heading into 2nd and wanted to know how bad it actually was.

Morris Fumble- ridiculous turnover, didn't see the ball into his hands, he gets a preseason pass because we all know how much he wants to do well. If he had coughed the ball up again I might not be as forgiving.

Griffin's Interception- Poor form, poor judgement, I don't know who else was open but the only chance to do better on that play was to throw over Jax or throw the ball away.

Griffin Running/Sliding- Really? You still can't slide? I'll say no more. When he ran around the left side trying to make a 1st down(which he had no chance of making)got hit hard by 3 Browns and the 4th fell on top of him. I know this guy is smart but his competitive streak overrides his good judgement. When I saw that I'm starting to question whether he's going to make thru a full season much less through his rookie contract.....which brings up a debate if he can't play smarter is he worth being the highest paid player on our team when/if they re-sign him...of course they'll re-sign him.

They goal line stance that the Browns made on our drive early 2nd qtr was impressive, they got some big boys on that defensive line. Our play call of run, run, run, run, was ok, I realize the coach needs film and believe he would be more creative in a real for the marbles game. Besides that we would have at least come away with 3 points on the board on that 4th down.

Glad I went back to watch the 1st qtr even though I'm paying for it this morning. Loved watching Griffin make his reads and getting rid of the ball quickly. Was super excited watching DJax catch the ball and use his moves to gain a few more yds. The long ball to Roberts was set up by those underneath passes, too bad Roberts had to slow down to catch the ball, he was out in front of 2 defenders and if hit in stride would have gained more.

well i couldn't see the game ,hate it when its on espn , with what seen which was highlights Griffin still needs to work on the slide .but looked good overall

1st team defense looked but letting the brown get close to winning is not even if it was second//third stringers playing

hocker boomed the opening kick off and looks like he has the upper hand

manziel with the finger awe!!!! did we get his woodle skin.

won the game which what counts but it looks like we still need work especially with i think the ravens next up

In the pre-season I am looking at 3 areas, which are:

1) Play execution - not making mistakes that stop drives and minimizing turnovers. For the offence, especially the 1st team, the answer was a big no for me.

2) The status of fixing the problems that plagued them last year. For the defense it looked good. For the offense, they have the parts but do not appear to be meshing properly, at least the 1st team. In addition, unless RG3 learns to run for time and not yards he want be around at the end of the year - good thing we have 2 other QBs that can step in.

3) Do they have depth? Yes, the 2nd & 3rd Offense even looked better than the 1st team.

In summary, there is a lot of Redskin coming together that needs to occur to keep from having a bad year (I say that because the Browns are without a decent QB at this point and we should have won by 30 points or more.). Good; we have 2 more pre-season games to fix the problems and there are some players on the 2nd team that are stepping up and appear to have the ability to solve some problems, soon hopefully.

nice write-ups. I think RGIII going through his progressions is HUGE. His footwork was sloppy and he absolutely needs to stop running so much for yards instead of trying to create more time. The depth on the offensive side of the ball looks to be solid but I'm not impressed with the defensive depth. Some of the second stringers really showed up but the majority look like last year. We were playing against a weaker offensive team and still struggled. I agree that getting stuffed on the goal line happens and that Cleveland has a really good defense. I also know that when the regular season happens we will take the points instead of gamble but Alfred is a beast and usually falls forward and he was unable to do that. The Ravens will be another good test with a strong defensive team.

Griffin better know that Haloti Ngata is still on the Ravens. Opposing players still want to knock him on his ass when he takes off running. This preseason our 2nd and 3rd team looks like they are better than other teams 2nd and 3rd teams just like last year. I remember making that point last year too. Our 2nd and 3rd teamers would not have done as well against Cleveland's 1st teamers....no way.

I think most will agree there is some work to do based on last night's performance. There is so much to look at and no game film to review the individual positions; making all of your comments immensely helpful in evaluating the team. Keep them coming.

For me, it will be particularly interesting to see how much can be accomplished with a short preparation week before Saturday's game. A coaches grade next week.

Never can tell, a short week of preparation may be the best thing, just get right back out there and play after seeing film and working on some corrections. Grateful we had no serious injuries.

This may be an understatement. The offense looked good at times but very sloppy at others. That pick was horrible. RGIII letting himself get hit on the sideline was like he hasn't learned a thing. I will concede that sliding on that really bad turf is really dangerous. I was also disappointed by our redzone production. 3 straight runs, nothing (AM looked in but it should not be that close!).

Not sure we can be that happy about the Def, it was against a really weak Off. Their line is just OK. They have no running game. And both QBs are just average. They still moved the ball.

The highlight of the night for me was RGIII hitting DJax after going through his progressions on the second play. Kerrigans 2nd sack was pretty good too.

The Ravens will be the first real test. Let's see what we do against them, especially the Off. The Cleve. D is pretty good by the Ravens are for real. I don't care about the final score but I would love to win the first half. That should be 1s against  1s.

Right now, the brightest spot is a much improved special teams. That alone will get us 2 more wins.
