soljaofjesus
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2146564-tyron-smith-cowboys-agree-on-new-contract-latest-details-and-reaction Curious as to ES' thoughts on this. Too much? Good deal? I personally am thinking "wtf Jerry" again. Cowboys fans seem to like this. Locking down a young LT for 10 years. I just think 10 years is too long. 40 mill gauranteed and 10 mill signing bonus
joehardee
This is a good deal he is only 23 and a pro bowl player and made orakpo look ordinary
bedlamVR
I think Smith is a good player and it is a good deal but Damn Jerry.... every couple of years the Cowboys do this extend players and do it in batches - and then some just dont work out - Smith is a good deal but not so long ago he did the same with Austin, Barber and Free .... DeMarco Murray 29
Gotta be honest, if those are the numbers this is a steal. The bonus gets prorated over 6 or 7 seasons and if they need to cut him in 5 years for some reason I expect it'll be no problem at all. That said, he'll be 34 in December of the 2023 season. Even though I am well aware of his age I am always still blown away at how young he is when I see it. I think Smith is a good player and it is a good deal but Damn Jerry.... every couple of years the Cowboys do this extend players and do it in batches - and then some just dont work out - Smith is a good deal but not so long ago he did the same with Austin, Barber and Free .... I don't think Austin and Barber were worth it. We paid Free, because we got into a bidding war with Tampa Bay. It's the premium for LT's. Outside of QB, it's one of the toughest positions to find. It's a lot of $$, but the kid is only 23. A month older than Eric Fisher and has already earned a pro bowl berth.
GhostofSparta
His contract will run up when he's in his early 30's (still prime for an O-lineman) and in a decade that deal will be like they're robbing him. Sure, there's a chance it will blow up (injuries, decline in play, whatever), but it's hard to say you're overpaying for a franchise LT that can do his job. Fred Jones
I keep trying to think of holes, but the pukes are locking up their pro bowl LT for all of his prime. You take a chance on signing any player to any type of long term contract. In five years this will be a cheap deal with years left. Hard to argue against it. Though, not going to admit Jones actually made a quality GM decision.
GhostofSparta
Though, not going to admit Jones actually made a quality GM decision. Blind squirrel, broken clock, etc. As long as he continues to balance these things out with the Romo extension, we shouldn't be too worried about him coming to his senses. SteveFromYellowstone
I mean technically it's a good deal but we all know the Cowboys are going to get into cap trouble like they always do because Dez is coming up next.
Pedro
This is a good deal he is only 23 and a pro bowl player and made orakpo look ordinary All top end LTs make all top end pass rushers look ordinary. As a LT you need long arms to grab a hold and feet fast enough to stay in front so no holding calls. For more evidence see Ware getting handled from day 1 by Trent. zoony
Dez is going to want similar money. They are going to have half of their cap tied up in 2 players. Meanwhile I could win their starting MLB position. Good times in Jerryland
KuNiT21
I guess I just have to get use to it. I kinda swallowed when I saw the $98 mill knowing Trent is coming up. I'm just fooling myself when I think all our core guys are going to be happy and sign team friendly deals. This is the norm it seems for a going, young, good LT. Salary cap keeps going up and has gone up pretty decent in the last few years. Dez will be interesting as others have said. He is going to command some nice coin. Popeman38
BurgundyBlog.com @BurgundyBlog 10m How cute. RT @darrenrovell: Cowboys become first team in US major sports history to send playoff tickets to fans before start of season. http://espn.go.com/dallas/nfl/story/_/id/11295007/dallas-cowboys-include-playoff-tickets-package-season-ticket-holders When Dallas Cowboys season-ticket holders open the envelope with their tickets this week, they might be shocked to find what's in there. Along with all the preseason and regular-season tickets, there's a sheet of playoff tickets, including a ticket for the NFC Championship Game, a game the team hasn't played in since the 1995 season. Meanwhile I could win their starting MLB position. Good times in Jerryland 10 Mill a year for a franchise LT is a pretty solid deal. We had over 10+ mill in cap before the Smith signing and his cap his this year only increases from 5 to 6 million. Jerry and Stephen, have been very smart about ridding themselves of bad contracts and aging players. We have about 24 in dead money this season that we should get back next year (Ware, Ratliff, Austin). I'm very excited to see this offensive line. It very well, may be the best offensive line in the NFL. Smith (23), Leary (25), Frederick (23), Martin (23), Free (30). Free is a free agent next season, but improved his play last season. I just hope that Scott Linehan realizes that we can pound the rock and run opposing defenses into the ground. But with Dallas and Garrett, Romo will throw for 45 times a game. sportjunkie07
Awesome deal for the cowboys as long as they have the ability to cut ties in 4 or 5 years if needed.
Roger.Staubach
I just can't help but be reminded of Jim Lachey. A single injury a year or two down the road could derail this signing in a hurry... Great risk. Great reward.
Forehead
If he stays healthy and continues his level of play, it's a great deal. We'd be dancing in the streets to get Trent Williams locked down for this long for under nine figures. All a question of health.
