Team owner Mark Davis and a pair of executives recently met with officials from San Antonio to discuss moving the franchise there, according to the San Antonio Express News.

"I was asked to meet two weeks ago with the owner of the Oakland Raiders, Mark Davis, and members of his staff," said San Antonio city manager Sheryl Sculley. "Mr. Davis has expressed interest in a possible relocation of his NFL team to San Antonio, and we are engaged in preliminary due diligence."

It would actually be a good move, San Antonio is a great sports town

Oakland is not the long term answer we all know this. And I think if a team is going to be successful in LA it needs to be an organic, from scratch expansion where they get to pick the mascot, venue, owner, etc.

Is being in Oakland that bad?  Maybe they should first focus on improving the play of their team and worry about moving after that is accomplished.

That stadium is pretty ridiculous.

However, I'ver never completely understood what exactly Al Davis (and now his son) want. They've been fighting for a new stadium seemingly since the 70s, have had multiple cities in the mix, and are still sharing a dump with the A's. It seems like they could have this problem solved 20 years ago if they wanted to.

Jones and Kraft are already in a defensive posture. They don't want a new NFL team in Texas.

Wow. That is not the franchise I pictured relocating first.

I could always see them going to LA again.

The San Antonio Raiders.  Wonder if they'd change it to the San Antonio Riders?

Talk about a range in the athletes in the town though.  The Spurs are the NBA's most clean cut team

My preference is the Raiders stay in Oakland. Rams move back to LA and the Jags go to St. Louis. Kahn is from southern Illinois, close to St. Louis.

moving the Jags to LA moves only one team

I doubt the NFL is looking to expand right now

Well, I don't remember him freaking out too much when Houston got a team awhile ago.

An expansion team in Houston (Still Oilers country IMO) is way different than a 3x Super Bowl team moving in.

The Raiders still have a huge cult following despite not having a winning season since 2002,

For some reason, I was thinking that LA would be in the mix for a NFL franchise again.

They still can be. Oakland moves to San Antonio, probably takes on a new name after a season or two or maybe right away, and then LA gets a new team and it's the Raiders. Kind of like Browns moving to Baltimore and then a new team re-starting the Browns. Same with Oilers moving to TN, and now you have another Houston team, though they went further back and took Texans name.

In fact, not having an Oakland team could very possibly make LA an even more attractive location for a new team or if a team like Jacksonville relocates, especially if they can become the Raiders and recapture that fanbase as well as LA folk.

  • 3 months later...

Bob Mcnair already said he would support a move.  Jerry can live with it.  Texas is big enough for 3 NFL teams.

The Raiders name will go away and Mark Davis will not retire that name or let someone else have it.  The NFL probably will be all in favor of this move because they don't want the Raiders to be the team moving back to L.A.
