Airline Misadventures

I expect this story to be topped, but it happened yesterday and I thought I'd share.

Moments after I get into my seat, I'm in Group five on a United Flight heading to DC two seats from the back of the plane, the Flight attendent screams.  It's one of those high pitched, real scream.  Then, she shrieks, "Oh my God!" and starts running hard towards the front of the plane her arms waving in the air above her.  I look at the passengers next to me, around me, and behind me and we're all thinking  the same thing.  Something serious is about to happen.

Seconds later, she returns and says not to us, but to her fellow attendents at the back of the plane that she almost left her cell phone at the wrong station IN THE PLANE!

Thanks for the heart attack.

Wow..how is she going to react when she can't find a passenger that didn't eat the fish for dinner.

That seems very off the mark for a flight attedant.  I fly a decent amount for work (100+ flights last year), and most of the issues I see caused are by idiot passengers.  My favorite was a Delta passenger last year who insisted on trying to fit his carryon into the overhead bin even though it clearly was too big.  He slammed the overhead door until it finally broke off.

At this point the flight crew had to call maintenance, who had to do a maintenance report, and then they had to find a new spot for all the other bags in that bin since they were no longer secure.  The whole thing made us ~30 minutes late.  The only upside was that the flight attendant took every opportunity she had to make fun of that passenger whenever she made an announcement ("you are now free to stand up in the cabin and confront the guy who made us late", "we will be landing shortly unless someone else insists on breaking something on the plane").

Still, your United flight attendant is in sore need of some training.  A lot of people are already tense when they fly and the crew shouldn't be causing any more alarm.

I fly several times a year and my biggest complaint is that they don't better screen peoples "carry ons" prior to boarding. That's why it always takes forever to board and take off. People bring things that are clearly to big and no one stops them until we are already on board. Drives me nuts!!!

Thats a funny story. And kudos to the FA for calling out the idiot. I would give her a raise.

All of my misadventures have been pretty routine.  Lateness, screaming kids whose parents are basically ignoring it (kids get upset.  That doesn't bother me.  As long as the parents are TRYING to calm them down).  That sort of thing.

But one that does stick out.  In college I was flying from Atlanta to DC, in the aisle seat of a 2-seat row, around halfway back.  I board, sit down, and the seat next to me is empty.  I noticed her the moment she stepped into the cabin.  This beautiful, tall brunette, early 20s probably.  A look that says volleyball player.  A vision in comfy traveling clothes.  "Please" I whispered.  Please let her have the seat next to me.  She makes her way to my row and make the international "excuse me but I have the window seat" motion.  The mind races.  First time I've found myself in this very fortunate social situation.  The best stories, lines, conversation starters jump into my brain.  I am prepared.

She sits down, takes a quick swig of water, pulls a traveling pillow thing from her bag, leans against the window, and is asleep in about a minute.  Sleeps through announcements.  Sleeps through takeoff.  Sleeps the whole way there, until the jolt of the landing.

Damn.

Hopefully, the guy took it well. He deserved it, but if he were enough of a self-important jerk he might have gotten the fa in a lot of trouble. I agree that's story us an outlier. That's why I thought it funny (after the fact) and worth sharing.

Your story is not an outlier although I've never seen it taken to that extreme lol

Flying through DFW last week. Boarded on-time but not left. Captain comes on inrercom, "You may have noticed we haven't left... we have a seal in the wheel well that is broken. It will take an hour for maintenance to fix..." One hour later, it is fixed. Unfortunately, weather has gotten bad. But we leave the gate and head to runway.

Couple minutes later: "We are 6th in line..." then, "We are actually 12th in line and ATC is not clearing planes to the east..." So, sitting and sitting. Finally 2 hours after we leave the gate... "Sorry folks, the FO and me don't have any time to fly so you need new pilots."

Back to the gate to de-plane, fortunately our pilots were close and we re-boarded and left the gate after 45 minutes. Then, "Sorry folks, there are more storms in the area, and we are 20th in line..." After anothet 1 hour we took off.

That was 4 hours in the plane at the gate and tarmac! Flight time was 2 hours.

This is hilarious. I only say it because since I got engaged it seems every flight (and I have been on about a dozen since March, to and from the Middle East, down to Texas, out to California) there has been some beautiful and super friendly/talkative/single girl sitting next to me. Or in line behind me to check in our bags

The worst was possibly in March, where I was going to fly down to Texas to visit my then potential fiance's family. Of course on that flight the most perfect woman (hell even perfect for me) sits down next to me and we hit it off the entire flight.

Going from Pakistan to Dubai, for whatever reason the Emirates checkout counter only has 1 computer working so the line is super long. Cute, early 30 something single girl ends up behind me in line and we chat it up for the next hour until we board our flight.

I swear God puts me through the dumbest tests

I don't care how cheap Spirt Airlines has flights for, I will NEVER use them again.  Coming back from Costa Rica, the plane was filthy and there were two flight attendants cuddling in the seat behind me.

Lol...I had heard that they were the "Soul Plane" of the airline industry.
