Washington Redskins Morning Clips: 7/7

Recommended Posts

A couple of good links out of this:

Special teams; http://www.csnwashington.com/redskinsblog/kotwica-lessons-learned-military-enemy%E2%80%99s-got-vote

One - Kotwica has a vastly different plan in place than his predecessors. Considering their success, I'm gonna call that a good thing.

Two - No kicker/punter has locked up a spot. Don't be surprised to see a FA add-on and these guys kept on speed-dial.

Three - Keep 4 TE's because 2 are ST gamers? OK - maybe a stretch but Tandler eluded to it; '...Gruden asked what he liked about Bolser and among the things he mentioned was that Bolser was a real “war daddy” running downfield covering kicks.' "War Daddy" - more of a description that I think I might hear from Coach Ben - not necessarily Coach Jay...

How many TE's: http://www.csnwashington.com/redskinsblog/30-questions-how-many-tight-ends-will-redskins-keep

OK - the link to Rich's above comment. Still don't see two ST TE's...Didn't see four QB's on the starting 53 last year either...

On the subject of TEs - any thoughts on the Jimmy Graham situation? Remember - might have some degree of impact in the future with a guy named Reed...

Right Guard (again): http://www.csnwashington.com/redskinsblog/30-questions-who-will-start-right-guard-redskins

Tandler seems to be waning a little on his 'Chester is the guy' thing. El-Bashir does bring up a few excellent points that possibly could work in Chesters favor:

a> ...Chester’s pass blocking figures to benefit from... Gruden’s quick pass concepts.

b> Long tore his ACL last October and missed the second half of Nebraska’s season...

     c> ...LeRibeus hasn’t played a snap since 2012.

Now let's see who grades out with pads on.

Orakpo: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2014/07/04/how-much-will-brian-orakpo-benefit-by-being-turned-loose/

Pretty much the nutshell;

a> Orakpo got a little salty when asked about Gruden’s stance that he thinks it’s better to have Orakpo to provide a further audition for a long-term deal. But, the linebacker says he will use doubters and critics as motivation.

b> he signed the one-year deal because he didn’t want to become a distraction to his teammates.

c> After being asked to maintain containment on the edges and help out in pass coverage, Washington’s outside linebackers, according to Haslett and his players, are going to be “turned loose” to get into the backfield and disrupt quarterbacks.

d> During his six NFL seasons, he has tallied double-digit sacks just twice

e> With Kerrigan and Murphy both under contract beyond this season, Orakpo very well could have to turn in a monster season if he wants to remain in Washington’s long-term plans.

I think there's good & bad in there; it's fair. I'd prefer the dude with a chip on his shoulder ready to kick some buttock versus the holdout type.

Honorable mentions (not mention anywhere)

a> Chris Neild - played very little; last year 6 total tackles - yeah but two were for a loss; an enviable ratio. And he has something most of the other DL can't offer - youth. Yeah, DL guys can play in their 30's but do you want them all to become extinct within the same year or two? Baker is young too - DE/NT. At least one of these two make it.

b> Trenton Robinson - only played half a season and not as a starter. 2 PD's - not much, right? Well, he played Safety - so how did the other guys do - Rambo - 0; Doughty 2; Meriweather - 3. Don't throw away this guy from making the roster just yet. Could be a backup CB and the #5 Safety.

Hail Manschild!

Unfortunately, you can go to too many articles and find a SNAFU that never should have seen print. I would rather let others point them out as my posts tend to droll on quite long enough as it is...

...sadly, a lot of proofreading these days comes down to, 'Well, it passed spell check."  This is just plain stupid - who is reading this before it gets published anyway? Posters here take the time to read & edit (if required) - we all know it can be done.

I deal with high levels of stupid five days a week - doesn't make it more acceptable but it has become expected.

Small, non-technical example; several of us received letters stating that our 'presents' was requested to attend a training class.

OK, it wasn't a letter made for public consumption but a pretty unprofessional presentation by our superiors. Maybe my present will be a dictionary...more than likely it will just be my 'presence'.

BTW...it's a trick question - the Redskins will change their name by then so NONE of the 53 will be Redskins...Hah!...OK - bad joke... :P

I've done my share of posts here where in small print under my post it says ''edited on 6:41pm''. Being 61 years old, there was a greater significance on grammar, punctuation, and overall content of what we write in Jr. and High School. I've never been a scholar(Iknow..no joke) but it bothers the hell out of me. That's actually a good joke on a bad subject. What 15 days till Training Camp?

It is all about caring about proofing and patience, ignore either and it will not be grammatically correct. I admit to a huge proofing and patience problem, a lifelong problem that has only grown worse with all of today's media response opportunities; sorry guys but I personally will try to do better. However, without a promise of improving.

Man, I got your age beat, maybe it is an earlier era problem.

First, I am the kind of typos. Like the rest of you, I often try to clean them up later as it's painful to read. But it's nice to see you guys  do it too. I don't feel so bad. So please, please keep those typos coming!!!

OK, on to real news. This is from the WTF, are you kidding me????page. TANARD JACKSON HAS BEEN SUSPENDED AGAIN!!!!!

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24613168/redskins-db-tanard-jackson-suspended-indefinitely-by-nfl

OK, first the football side:  What a complete idiot!  I bet Raheem Morris wants to cut the guys nuts off!

Now the human compassion side - What a complete idiot...  oh sorry didn't change quick enough.

Seriously, while I am pissed at him, this dude needs some serious help. He spends 2 yrs on the sidelines with a team sticking with him all the way, and less than 2 months back he does the same **** again! He has serious issues. Ones that need professional help. At least it happened now. Not after training camp or in the season.

Some will be screaming for the Skins to cut him. I don't believe they can while he is suspended, not just like that. He will be removed from the roster, but it takes some time and protocol.

Yeah, maybe it's because some of us are in the 'old fart' group. Me - 58 so that puts me in ManChilds range. It wasn't as easy back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth to make corrections - sloppy meant retyping a page on a typewriter, not a 5 second edit in a word processor. Thinking ahead and reading aloud after writing is what we did.

At least these 'professionals' can do is read the bloody article aloud after writing it. Hey - if they are that lazy - Adobe will read it aloud for them and all they have to do is listen! These clowns get paid to put stuff out there that I would have gotten an 'F' for as a college freshman. (don't know about high school - went to a trade school; we didn't do much academic-wise).

Not gonna give a flyer on the idea that, 'It is OK because people will know what I mean so it isn't important to get it quite right right'. Not if you are getting paid for it - get it right. Maybe that's the difference; when someone is getting paid to do something I hold them to a higher standard than the average Joe. Especially if it is something that doesn't require a specialist.

Yeah, I can't believe Tanard screwed up again. Was he smoking? Something other? He's got his own demons of temptation that are tearing him down. I had hopes for him to contribute and now that ship has sailed. Narrorws the field of Safeties by one, and he wasn't a lock to even make the team, so it insures that Rambo will surely stay on.

2 years of punishment would seem like mare than a sufficient amount of time to learn a lesson - time to move on without Tanard.

The typos on my IPhone messages are my worse ones. They are easy to make because of the small touch keyboard and the phone keeps on correcting misspelled words with the wrong word. I really need to find a read back capability on the IPhone.

Fat fingers back - Canada I am up with the other guys with the geriatric thing. However, no blue hair, I started shaving it off when it got to thin to have an impact.

John, we are in desperate need for more of your web sites with Redskin analysis, I am getting worried about where we will go next.

Thanx Back - but the rest of the media is really just catching up to places we've already been to awhile ago.

Washington Post and NFL.com found this newsworthy: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/football-insider/wp/2014/07/08/as-leonard-hankerson-recovers-from-injury-will-there-be-a-role-for-him/

"It’s possible that Hankerson could open training camp on the physically unable to perform list."

More surprising news if he is not.

That story was 8 July.

I am wondering how long before they fill that hole at '90' now that Tanard has left the building.  Looking for rumors of who they are going to bring in - still don't have a PS QB. I  guess you don't 'need' one but definitely handy...

BTW, note to the rest - not blue haired nor bald...

Heard Tanards problem was most likely ped's. Makes sense that it was something to try to create muscle and quicker rebuild....there seems to be a wide gray area about over the counter supplements and the NFL. Sorry to shock the begeesus out of you guys but no blue hair neither.

I thought that was Alcatraz myself but didn't want to make any inferences....  :-)

Yes, this site is very much behind in information.

You bring up a good point about a PS QB. I too am surprised we don't have someone there. Only 3 arms for TC is not enough either.

What's the background for the pic?

Indeed, it is Alcatraz.

Don't worry 'bout the inferences - we've all done 30 years hard time somewhere...right?

Oooops; guess that was just me...

Actually, a vaca a few month's back - a place my GF always wanted to go.  A lot bigger than I expected. I used to live in that area and could see the island but being there was a lot different.

Hey MansChild - think your gonna need a bigger cart to haul those fish!

If that's what they say as far as 'PEDs' goes about Tanard then whatever. Typically a PED violation is referred to as, 'the policy on performance-enhancing substances' while recreational drugs come under the heading of, 'violating the league’s substance-abuse policy'.

A lot of guys who got popped on PEDs were for things like vitamins, minerals and such that are not really drugs but they are not listed as 'Olympic Approved Supplements'. This isn't really hard. Look at the bottle. If it has the Olympic Approval it is clearly marked as such and it passes the NFL p test. So that's why the actual NFL policy says 'substance' versus 'drugs'. Aren't these guys like college graduates? Any line about how they 'just took a vitamin and didn't know' is bunk.

Spencer Nealy was suspended today for four games and they quoted the performance enhancing one while Tanards has been quoted under the substance abuse one, both by an 'NFL spokesperson'. In any case; Jackson is done, his cap comes back and they aren't required to reserve a roster spot for him. Dude needs some serious help & I hope he gets it.

So, the odds that the Skins take a chance on another guy with a similar situation? Nice, he just F'd them in the A too.

Think about this - guys nailed on PEDs usually get suspensions limited to a few games; then they don't repeat (at least under PEDs). The Substance ones get the more severe ones when they repeat. Get a slap on the hand the first time then jumps big time. LaVon Brazill, Fred Davis, Justin Blackmon, - all these guys got either the indefinite or at least a season for substance abuse. Josh Gordon - well, this is his 2nd 'substance' - let's see.

Except Will Hill; he got a PED (4 games), then 4 games (2013) for a substance then another substance for 6 games (2014). Granted he got axed but he shoulda got the season/indefinite for the second substance abuse. Not to mention some of the other stuff he threw in in-between. Special rules for Mara.

Hail Johns- The fact that these guys all attended collegewould make you think that just the exercise of studying for exams would condition players to look more thoroughly at anything they put in their bodies. Even though there are truly some academically smart guys in the NFL there is an equal portion who studied football as their Major.....but that's another storyline. I caught those fish last Fall from my kayak in a creek tributary of the James River in eastern Va. where I live. With a name like Manchild you would think I would look more like Shaq!
