North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un Officially Condemns James Franco And Seth Rogen

A North Korean spokesperson said, “[this] shows the desperation of the US government and American society.” He’s referring to James Franco and Seth Rogen’s new movie, The Interview. He added: A film about the assassination of a foreign leader mirrors what the US has done in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Ukraine. And let us not forget who killed [President John F.] Kennedy – Americans.”

The basic premise of The Interview is that Franco and Rogen attempt to assassinate North Korea’s dear leader, Kim Jong Un. (Although, wouldn’t Americans feel offended if say, Iraq made a movie about assassinating our president?)

The North Koreans didn’t take too kindly to this “insult” and so, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un condemned Franco and Rogen for making this movie.

Rogen Tweeted about the condemnation, and was light-hearted about the situation.

Finally, someone of importance has publicly noted the travesty that is Seth Rogan and James Franco.

It's to our discredit it had to be NK and not the leader of the free world.

Thanks Obama.

However, I do hope they leave Britney alone.

North Korea says Seth Rogen's new movie is an 'act of war'

Kim Jong-un's government warns of "merciless" retaliation if the US doesn't ban 'The Interview'

The government of North Korea today issued an unsurprisingly harsh statement about Seth Rogen's upcoming film, The Interview, denouncing the action-comedy as an "act of war." In the movie, Rogen and James Franco star as two journalists who, after scoring an interview with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, are ordered by the CIA to assassinate him. In a statement published by the state-run KCNA news agency, a foreign ministry spokesman characterized Rogen as a "gangster filmmaker" and called upon the US to block the film, according to a report from the AFP.

"The act of making and screening such a movie that portrays an attack on our top leadership... is a most wanton act of terror and act of war, and is absolutely intolerable," the spokesman said, adding that the US would face a "resolute and merciless response" if it fails to ban the film, which is slated for release later this year.

What would be the opinion in the US if another country made a movie with the same plot, and actually used the real sitting president as a character such as Barack Obama? Would we view it with animosity?

I'd venture to guess that the majority of people would be apathetic. Some people would be up in arms about it, but there is already plenty of vitriol towards Obama domestically anyway...

Interesting question.   We would either be outraged or, it might win an Oscar for best Comedy of the Year.

That's a tough one.

Well there was Death Of A President, which came out in 2006 and deals with the assassination of Bush, so it's kind of been done. Not nearly the same plot, but I don't know if anyone cared.

Free Republic would pay for an advance screening and have a huge festival.

Probably, but we wouldn't classify it as an "act of war" like strawberry shortcake is.
