mcsluggo Posted May 27, 2015 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Yep one of the reasons I do streams, and can watch about any game with a little effort (though the quality is usually not as good) paying to get blacked out is frustrating. what site do you use to stream? the ones that i have used have been soooo damned annoying---- you have to be a master waldo finder just to close all of the poitntless ads (that aren't even advertising anything) to get to the stream, and when you DO get to it, it lags and hangs so often it ends up feeling like you are watching scrambled porn in 1984--- but with much less anticipation Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Subscribe to a VPN/proxy service that makes the apps think you are watching from Oregon, or any other location. The only sport this won't work on is NFL, but I think this will get you regular season games (that aren't national). Still, playoffs wise need to pick up cable though... or just be like me where your family gradually becomes more important and scores and highlights become good enough. First, considering I'm just now looking into cutting the cord, I haven't researched it enough to know about said services. Thus my complaint I'm not worried about NFL games, I can get those through the PS4 or Xbox One and the only games that would be blacked out are Panther games. And I can still view those on Fox or CBS through antenna if needed. Basketball is where I would suffer the most. I watch more NBA ball than MLB games. You can't get the NBA games without a satellite/cable provider like you can for MLB. If I pulled the plug, I'd pay just to have the ESPN, Disney (for daughter), etc. So I'd get the majority of the NBA playoff games and the finals. Again, regular season would be a swing and a miss though. And my family is very important to me and first over everything already, thus why I mentioned that it's hard enough to work in viewing time for everything already with the kid, work, etc. I'm already having to multi-task to work in gaming lol. I hook up my consoles to my PC monitor, play without sound so I can have a ballgame or show/movie on. I was merely pointing out that the lack of quantity of shows available all at once to me, would open up viewing of more sports. Daughter is 7 years old, we put her to bed around 9 - 9:30 pm school nights. I do about 85-90% of my viewing after she is in bed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

That would involve watching someones stream or ya can access them if you are out of the country with a specific app.(or you could lie if you are that kind) my understanding is watching a stream is legal, the act of someone streaming illegal content(w/o right to content) is illegal. if you watch youtube vids ya probably view content broadcast w/o rights I would think downloading it would be illegal as well. Because they have contracts with local cable providers. If they carried games online no one in their right mind would get cable. There'd be a HUGE dip. That's why they black out games locally online. They want you to buy cable. At this point cutting cable means you miss out on Nats games, Wizards games, Caps games...I mean I have to listen on radio and I didn't even know Desmond was committing those errors last night because I'm halfway paying attention. In my case for MLB, it's completely ridiculous that Braves, Nats, O's and Reds games are blacked out for me. Charlotte doesn't have a MLB team. It's two states away from Georgia (dismissing the small part that borders, talking North/South from CLT), further away from DC or Baltimore and even further away from Ohio. They shouldn't include states/cities in blackout zones that are that ****ing far away from the teams they are blacking out. Bordering states/cities, sure. Not hours away. Anyhow, I watch more basketball than baseball now days, so they don't have it available without a service provider and considering black out rules, it wouldn't matter anyhow. The local sports broadcasters technically allow online streaming but you need an account with a cable provider to access it IMO there is no way to be a true sports fan and cut the cord. I have tried. It's not possible. I've tried listening to the games for years, there is just the visual aspect missing. I've tried streams, which are unreliable and often buffer, even with good internet. You want to enjoy sports, just turn on a TV that's hooked to cable and watch and flip the channel. Unfortunately it is worth it, even if it's like 100 per month. I watch more than sports. I have TV shows I like, I record movies and I like a lot of the history/discovery shows. Yes, I pay for subscriptions $8 each per month for Netflix, Hulu and Amazon...so I pay $24 per month-ish. My devices are already hooked up since the PS3 is on the living room tv and the AppleTV is a single plus in...no biggie. My iPads are already on the network so the instantly find the AppleTV when we want to stream games. I too watch sports, I have tons of shows I like (Hulu) plays the new shows maybe a day or so behind schedule. I have a gazillion movies and I don't need to record any of them because they are there. I too get history/discovery shows because they are on all three services. It really doesn't get much simpler than that. Can't remember the name of the station now, but I think channel 20 had all of the Bullets games and Orioles. This cable thing has become a scam. I have fios and I can't even watch nats games and everything else lags like **** because MLB TV is funky. When you turn on your TV and watch you don't get buffering or bad picture. Cable pays them more for exclusivity (mostly), so that cable will stay relevant. Some people do stay on cable through that bribery.... ...but many others don't, and slowly just start to lose interest in those sports. I didn't really give a rats ass about the NBA, until i moved to the west coast (Davis, CA -- between Sac and SF bay). there the radio was wild for the kings (the only game in town) even before the kings briefly got good. IN addition there were 2 or so games a week on regular TV... so i slowly got hooked. here in DC, you could've forgotten that there is a local basketball team on the local radio (well, this year there has been a little more discussion), and i NEVER see local games. I actually would LIKE to give a **** about the bullets... but i just can't get myself to. I still like the Kings and Warriors a bit... but that is slowly just fading away. now i occasionally go to a United/Bullets/Caps/Nats game... but overall, vaguely care less and less over time. CBS announced on Wednesday that Showtime will be getting a similar service this summer. Like HBO Now, Showtime is first partnering with Apple to make its shows available on the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. It will be available in July for $10.99 per month — cheaper than the $14.99 it costs to subscribe to HBO Now. ****ing awesome. Even less of a reason to give Comcast or big cable companies $$.
