Spartacus87
Only about a month until most teams start Fall camp, and 9.5 weeks until the 2013-2014 college football season officially kicks-off. Big opening weekend games include: - Clemson vs. UGA - LSU vs. TCU - South Carolina vs. UNC - Oklahoma State vs. Mississippi State - FSU vs. new ACC member Pitt on Labor Day and of course, - Alabama vs. Virginia Tech in a Chik-Fil-A Kickoff rematch from their 2009 match-up. VT fans are currently selling these t-shirts to get hyped for the occasion: Ideally for Hokie Nation, this memorabilia will end up with more positive memories attached than this amazing sign, which is apparently posted in some bar in Blacksburg: Now to get adequately pumped for the pending season, this excellent video montage of some of the awesome-ness from the 2012-2013 college football season:
Momma There Goes That Man
Go Hokies! Beat Bama! They're going to shock the world. I have lots of positive memories of the undefeated 99 season and NC game. I don't see the problem with that sign is. I am really interested to see how Oregon looks this year without Kelly run ing things. I am going to check them out when they come to Charlottesville to play UVa. Also excited for another season of Johnny Football
bushwack
There's not a chance in hell that Tech is going to beat Bama. Especially not with Logan Thomas under center, and the terrible o-line in front of him. Even if Tech is able to keep it close, Beamer will find some way to blow it as he always does in big games. This game will be no exception. I'm expecting Bama to win by at least 21 points.

I am going to check them out when they come to Charlottesville to play UVa. Also excited for another season of Johnny Football The problem with the sign is that VT didn't go undefeated that season. Unless the NC game doesn't count for some bizarre reason. The sign comes across as an absurd way to gloss over losing the biggest game of VT's program history. Oregon should indeed be interesting this year...they got off pretty lightly from the NCAA today, although for once, I'd say that's a case of the NCAA dealing out punishment the correct way - punishing the coach who oversaw the infractions, not the players. There's not a chance in hell that Tech is going to beat Bama. Especially not with Logan Thomas under center, and the terrible o-line in front of him. Yeah...if I were a VT fan, I'd be pretty worried about Logan Thomas going up against Nick Saban's Crimson Tide defense. That match-up could get ugly. Momma There Goes That Man
I have to be real, VT is going to get slaughtered. I think they keep it close for a half but then Bama just bulldozes them in the 2nd. We don't have the horses to topple Bama. I'm worried about Logan too. If he plays like 2011 Logan that would be nice and he will be a high draft pick but if he goes back to 2012 Logan and starts slinging the ball 5ft over everyone's head it's going to be a long season. The banner is to commemorate VTs first undefeated regular season in history. Yeah we lost the NC game but it was a big moment for little old VT and unfortunately we've never been able to duplicate it. Ask any Hokie and about their perfect season and they will fondly remember several games and experiences/moments from that amazing season. I don't see anything wrong with it. The Evil Genius
First year in I don't know when (maybe RR's first at WVU) that I have little to no expectations this year for the Mountaineers. There are so many unknowns..but this is definitely a make or break year for Dana Holgorsen and the WVU fan base. With that said, it wouldn't suprise me if they go out and win 8-9 games. Or lose 8-9 games. That's how odd this year is for me.

Or lose 8-9 games. That's how odd this year is for me. Somebody I follow on Twitter made an interesting observation the other day regarding how much of an impact Clemson's terrible defense in 2011 had on the perception of recent WVU QBs... Basically, Geno Smith got a ton of off-season hype that developed into an early Heisman campaign due to his Orange Bowl performance against Clemson. Clint Trickett has some respectable game work on his resume, but his real career highlight thus far is making his first college start at Clemson, where he went 24 for 38 for 336 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 pick. So really, who benefited more from having the chance to play against Clemson's defense that year? Geno's Heisman hype fizzled out, but it brought a lot of good publicity to the WVU program, especially for their first year entering the Big 12. Other than the Clemson game, Trickett doesn't have another game to his credit where he started and played through the entire game, so his appeal as a transfer QB is based largely on his performance in Death Valley in 2011. The Evil Genius
I'm not convinced that Trickett will be QB all year. I still think Ford Childress is the future of that program right now. That said, I'm hopeful that whoever plays QB won't have to throw it 45+ times a game, with the talent they have in the backfield and the unknowns they have at WR. This Mountaineer team will actually have to play defense if it wants to win any games this year. And god knows they can't be worse on defense than they were last year. It's helpful that the only can't win game they have this year comes in week 2. I'm guessing 8-4 this year. big#44
I've been waiting since signing day for this thread to come around. I almost started it a couple times myself. Almost. College football season can't get here soon enough. And for the 1st time in a few years, FSU isn't favored to win the Atlantic. It will be nice to be an underdog again this year. SkinsHokieFan
As usual excited for the season, but I already put my money down on Alabama to cover the -21 spread. In fact I have apparently put my VT fandom on the line with some people I know (if we cover, I am banned from BCS bowl games for a few years!) Senior year VT QB's tend to play very well, see Tyrod Taylor/Bryan Randall as the last 2 examples and I am hoping with a non Stinespring led offense the O looks competent and can match what should be another very good D. Expectations? 8-10 wins, play for the ACC title

The Evil Genius
Well ACC, ND is officially semi-your-problem. Enjoy them taking undeserved bowl spots and generally adding very little for the headaches you are about to receive. On the plus side, the addition of Pitt brings a lot of tarps in case of empty seats at any of your stadiums.

The Evil Genius
VT and WVU renewing rivalry in 2020's. Home and home About damn time. 2021 and 2022 to be exact. MORE AFTER LINK http://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/07/03/black-diamond-trophy-between-vt-wvu-up-for-grabs-again-in-2021-22/ Black Diamond Trophy between VT, WVU up for grabs again in 2021, ’22 Assuming the series doesn’t get cancelled or otherwise modified before then, that is. And here’s hoping it doesn’t. Thanks to conference realignment, several of the rivalries that made college football so great have become dormant. One of those was the battle for the Black Diamond Trophy between Virginia Tech and West Virginia. The last time the two teams played was in 2005, a 34-17 win for the Hokies. But Virginia Tech was already in the ACC by that point and the future of the series was doubtful at best. That’s set set change — at least temporarily. WVU athletic director Oliver Luckand Hokies coach Frank Beamer announced on Wednesday that the two sides have agreed to a home-and-home series for 2012 and ’22. The Mountaineers are scheduled to host the Hokies on Sept. 18, 2021 before traveling to Blacksburg on Sept. 24, 2022.
pjfootballer
Last year in the ACC for my Terps. At first I was mad, but now I'm kind of excited to join the B1G next year. My alma mater Memphis moves to the AAC, but we always stink in football. It will be better for them for basketball.
SkinsHokieFan
I am a big "meh" on it. 8 years is an eternity in CFB. Who knows what the landscape will be. The players who will be seniors on those teams are now either starting HS or just finished their freshmen year Somehow over the next decade we play Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin in home and home series, however cannot pull a game with Tenn. I'm sure it will get pushed back, VT will have Michigan & Richmond at home that first year (2021). I can't see VT sticking to 2 big name OOC opponents. Either way - I hope it doesn't get cancelled. I still believe that these 2 teams should play each other regularly (if not every year). Besides, who else is VT going to use stick em' for? Spartacus87
Sort of unbelievable how, in light of the Aaron Hernandez story, national writers and publications are just finally now circling back to Urban Meyer and the type of program he ran while at UF. Now, while I certainly don't believe that Meyer's absolute lack of control and further protective treatment of his "special" players has any real connection to Hernandez turning out as a cold-blooded killer, I also certainly don't mind seeing the dirt on his time at UF dug up and him being further criticized as a complete moral fraud. It would be nice however to see a bigger examination of the DA and the way the local police have handled UF's athletes over the years. Jeremy Foley stood by and looked the other way while letting Urban Meyer essentially run college football's version of "The Longest Yard," just to win championships, but Gainesville's finest are hardly innocent in that story.
