For those of you who are Walking Dead fans..... were you/are you zombie fans in general? I have heard so many people praise the show, but I hate zombie movies. I'm not scared of them at all, but the topic just does not interest me. Just wondering if the draw of the show has mostly to do with the zombie topic itself or something else.

MissU, IMO, most of the zombie movies have been bad to really really bad. I find the same with many "horror" and almost all "slasher" movies over the decades, which are neither good nor scary to me. I like the zombie flicks that are generally acknowledged as the best of the genre--i.e. Romero's original Night of the Living Dead (68--b&w), Dawn of the Dead (04), Land of the Dead (05), 28 Days Later (02)/28 Weeks Later (07), and then Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland which add humor to the theme.

I think that WD (which has it critics--just read the show thread) is excellent overall and at the very top of its genre in any media, flaws and all. You can enjoy that show even if you've never liked the genre. But it is gory of course.

The reason this show is so popular is because it's a very smart show.....great character development and story lines. You start to care about these people and their plight and where they are going.

My niece was hesitant about watching the show because of the gore and zombie's, etc. but now she and her fiance are hooked and can't stop watching. It draws in so many people that would never watch an old George Romero zombie flick.

Oh to answer your question....no I was never a big zombie fan.

I HATED 28 Days Later, Dawn of the Dead, and Shaun of the Dead. Gory doesn't bother me. I may try and get into it this summer when I have some time off.

Shaun of the Dead is absolutely hilarious. I literally quote lines from it every day..

I'm not a zombie fan either, but the show is more than just that. It's really about the characters and how they change in the post apocalyptic world. The zombies(which ironically the term is NEVER used in the show)are almost a sidestory once you get past the first season.

Watching Banshee at the moment on Chinemax. Just watched an episode so far to check it out.

Pretty good so far, though there's a lot of sex and violence in it and it's pretty intense too.

Too soon to recomend it, but might be worth looking at for anyone with free Cinemax the next day or so.

28 Days Later? Really?

It was a zombie movie by a guy who doesn't do zombie movies. Danny Boyle is probably a top 3 director as of right now and you hated 28 Days Later? Man, that sucks. I'm not a zombie movie fan but that movie was a masterpiece.

To answer the question about TWD... It's really more about the people than it is the zombies. You can go a few episodes without even encountering one (it seems like).

Yeah I hated it. Maybe too depressing, I don't know. I just remember seeing it in college with my roommate and we both hated it.

Watched the first two episodes of Bates Motel and I think its pretty cool. Which probably means it wont last more than one season.............God forbid a show on A&E be better than that **** they put on called Duck Dynasty. That show is horrible, too scripted. Wife and I watched it for 20 mins one night and thought it was awful. I guess all the non-southerners/non-rednecks really buy into it, cause I didn't see anything that would make me want to watch it again. I just don't understand all the hype around this show.

The new show on the history channel "Vikings" I thought was really good. I would suggest it to anybody who likes the Game of thrones or Spartacus series

Yes, this is turning out to be really good. One has to keep in mind though that the violence level is nowhere near the level of Spartacus, because its not on a pay channel. But none the less, I've enjoyed all the episodes and history behind the show.

Everyone should have Hannibal on their radars. It starts on ABC this week. Not a big fan of shows on fox, nbc, or abc, but the reviews of the pilot are really good.

It's actually on NBC, so it'll probably get cancelled even if it's good. It does have Laurence Fishburne and the guy who played the villain in Casino Royale though, two really good actors, but NBC shows always fail.

Yeah, having watched the four episodes to date over the weekend, I'm on board with the Vikings. :)

Story-telling-wise, I actually kinda like the absence of so many sex scenes (GOT/TB) or overdone blood-effects (Spartacus).

Prison Break, Lost, and 24!

Prison Break's first two seasons were excellent. I would reccomend stopping after the end of season 2 and just pretend the show ends there.

24 was awesome, although it wasn't nearly as good towards the end as it was in the beginning. But that's true for most shows.

To all fans of Archer:

Go watch Frisky Dingo immediately. One of the two writers of FD went on to write Archer after the production company went under.

It is without a doubt the best animated show I've ever had the pleasure to watch, and much of the dialogue style carried over into Archer, so chances are you will love it. Many of the characters are similar as well....and plenty of Tarentino references...

http://video.adultswim.com/frisky-dingo/this-is-for-cody.html

Killface, Wendell, Xander Crews, Stan, Grace Ryan/Antagone, The Dread Lobster, Mr Ford....so many great characters. It's the kind of show I wish I'd never seen just so I could watch it for the first time. I'm pretty sure this show even invented the phrase "Boosh". Looked it up on wikipedia...

"Boosh!", a catch phrase used by many characters on the American animated TV program Frisky Dingo.

lol

Thank you.

I agree, Vikings definitely does do a good job of showing how unnecessary a lot of the over the top sex and blood can be when a show is well done. I think that, so far, it is just as good as those shows, and could easily turn out to be better.

I actually like the over the top sex and blood...
