Previews of Coming Attractions: Upcoming New Movies (Thoughts and Info on Movies That Don't Have Their Own Thread Yet).

Let's take care of some business first: I started this as a new thread after perusing already existing alternatives and being dissatisfied with the options, including a thread I MET'd awhile back trying to accomplish the same goal----which is to give a regular place to learn about, or comment on, movies that are in the making, or rumored to be so, but haven't got their own threads yet

So if we're going to talk about Rocky #32 in here, it's fine until someone starts a thread just for that, and then we'd just post there to discuss that movie. :)

To start off, I'd recommend a trip to the Marvel site for super-hero movies fans, as I found the notices of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy

and Ant Man

I can see lot of potential for both, although the Guardians I read is quite different than their newer manifestations. There is also stuff on other new Cap and Thor flicks (Thor looks to pick up where Avengers left off).

Also, I was disappointed a few months ago when I heard Tyler Perry (c'mon) was going to be Alex Cross. And I guess the movie is disappointing money-wise as well as otherwise. Part of me is glad it's a dud hoping they ****-can Perry for any future possibilities for Cross movies. But to me it is too bad that Mathew Fox (who is supposed to be good in it) may suffer since this is his first big role since LOST.

On a similar note, one of my favorite fun-reading-material characters is Jack Reacher of the Lee Child (pen name) novels.

reacherbook.jpg

The guy is kind of a cross between Dirt Harry, Jason Bourne, and Kwai Chang Kaine, but more with the persona of some of the badass characters Charles Bronson often played in the 60's--80's.

He's a drifter and loaner and retired major of a special MP detachment with deep ties to Special Forces. Not a lot of talk in him, but a lot of serious trouble if you get on his wrong side. I have long wanted to see Reacher in a movie, and thought he could be a great leading action character and the books always had straight-forward and very well crafted premises and regularly varying supporting characters.

Probably the most singly emphasized physical characteristic is his height (like 6'3-5ish). It's a central feature every time his physicality is being featured (which is often). So I finally hear there is going to be a Jack Reacher movie and I get all jacked up and then....I find the star is ****ing Tom The Mad Manic Midget Cruise.

And I hate Tom Cruise (thought the I like a number of the dip****'s movies, dammit). I could shoot him. I HATE he's got the role. :)

A couple weeks later I saw some previews and it made me want to shoot him again. What a waste. :(

Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as a barbarian in 'Legend of Conan'

Arnold Schwarzenegger will be back on screen yet again — and this time he'll be reprising his breakout role from 1982's "Conan the Barbarian."

"The Legend of Conan" is set for a 2014 release, according to Hero Complex, which notes that Schwarzenegger will play a small-town sheriff, a DEA agent and more in a few films before he rejoins the barbarian hordes.

"I always loved the Conan character, and I'm honored to be asked to step into the role once again," Schwarzenegger said in a statement.

So how does the now 65-year-old Schwarzenegger step back into a character he first inhabited 30 years ago? Well, it's good to be king.

He'll be playing that "mythic guy who has played the role of king, warrior, soldier and mercenary, and who has bedded more women than anyone, nearing the last cycle of his life," producer Fredrik Malmberg told Deadline, which first reported the news. "He knows he’ll be going to Valhalla, and wants to go out with a good battle."

Did you guys hear Arnold is doing a new Conan? They'll pick it up where it left off at the end of this first one, ignore the other two made, and have him be the same age Arnold is now.

If I remember the original Howard novels right (read many years ago) the last novel was Conan of the Isles where he leaves his throne and (at the very end) adventures off to what will become the New World and is the source for the myth (unless you're a believer in him) of the god Quetzalcoatl.

I think the movie will be more toward the later years of his reign in Aquilonia, if they even follow the books that closely.

Here's some, but not much, on it.

oops lol...slow to the party on this one (I meant to have it in the OP)

I need to look into those Jumbo...

I'm partial to the Preston-Child Special Agent Pendergast series; They're excellent reads IMO.

I suppose this list will be obvious and universally appreciated for the posters in this thread, for me:

The Hobbit

Man of Steel

300: Rise of An Empire

Star Trek

Iron Man 3

Red 2

War World Z

The Great Gatsby (Not a movie I thought I would enjoy, but did after taking a few music and film appreciation courses from George Mason and NVCC)

The Reacher novels read easy but well, CB, and he stands out on his own merit as an interesting character beyond many such (even other good ones). Your post is the first I have heard of another "300" flick so I'll have to check into that---thanks! Wonder if the next one will be a little less homoerotic. :pfft:

Haven't seen any footage of WWZ yet, but know there was an old thread on it that I may go read, and believe it or not, just finally read the book this last week. I could see a lot of potential for great visuals scene-wise in the stories.

Supes is going to be tough for Nolan to make match his Batman efforts. He's a tough character, though I thought even the Routh effort was good and the movie was decent (not great).

Would love to see a GREAT Supes movie just out of respect to the grandfather of world-wide popularity Superheroes. I add "world wide" to acknowledge heroes like Doc Savage (which Supes kind of ripped off in some ways) and The Shadow (same there with Batman) and others predated him, but were mainly well-known in the U.S. and limited to market size by their main mediums (pulp magazines or books and some radio) in those days.

I would love a serious big budget Doc Savage or (especially) Shadow movie.

Don't get your hopes up for WWZ. It's undergoing massive rewrites and Lindelhoff has been brought in to redo the third act.

Ok, my thoughts about ancient action movie stars being like ancient rock stars---they need to just stop, even if people will buy it---may need to change since Stallone looked like he got in pretty good shape for recent and upcoming flicks (and even Arnold has), and Clint and Bruce can still pull it off a bit at least.

Now I thought Die Hard 5 sounds like a stupid idea when I first heard about it and Bruce is hard to buy as still being some uber badass at 60-plus (haven't seen any trailers yet), but then I found out Anne Vyalitsyna's in it so...

Hooper, I am more afraid I'll like it the Reacher flick anyway, and then it will be another ****ing Tom Cruse move I enjoyed. :ols:

I don't know why I haven't liked the look of Djnago at all. I'm not a big Foxx fan, but I know he's good. Dunno why I have that reaction.

All you gotta know is it has DiCaprio, Waltz, and Tarantino!

Will Smith was actually supposed to play the Foxx role, I think, but he backed out. Classic Will.

Disney to acquire Lucasfilm for 4.05 BILLION.

Promises Episode VII by 2015, with episodes VIII and IX to follow.

BTW - anyone see the Red Dawn trailers this weekend?

Looks underwhelming for such a classic 80's remake.
