I liked disco and Donna Summer, but how does she get in before The Spinners?
fullnelson9999
It's because it isn't really a Hall of Fame.
Lombardi's_kid_brother
As always, this is really just a list of people in Jann Wenner's record collection. Having said that, the Jam at the end could be rather spectacular if everyone shows up.

The Spinners should have been inducted years ago. And Who is Laura Nyro? An internet search engine is your friend. Look up Laura Nyro and you'll see why she should be nominated. Also, I happen to agree with you about the Spinners! My teen years were full of the Spinners and I still sing their music. Great melodies and harmonies! TheLongshot
I still find it amazing that GnR gets in, but the vast majority of bands that influenced GnR, that have a far larger catalog of great music, do not get in. Personally, I'm very disappointed that Heart didn't get in.

I always thought that Lose Your Illusions was underrated. They only put out 3 albums but did have a huge influence in videos. Not sure if that helps put them over the top. However, in this MTV generation, the video was just as important to the song and they put out some pretty good videos. The trilogy of Don't Cry, November Rain and Estranged are pretty damn good with the latter being their best work in my opinion.
Unforgiven
The Rock Hall is a joke. It's basically a group of anonymous board members running the organization, most of which aren't musicians themselves. Each year they come up with a list of nominees, which often is just full of their own personal favorites and mail it out to some musicians and journalists and ask if they think they should get in, if they get 50% yes then they're in. I'm not a big Sex Pistols fan but I did laugh when they got inducted and refused to show up, instead sending the letter which referred to the rock hall as a "piss stain." ---------- Post added December-7th-2011 at 04:07 PM ---------- GnR was a great band for about 6 years, and put out 3 solid albums (well 1 *great* album and a pretty good double). It's absurd though that bands like Deep Purple, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest sit around waiting while GnR walks in the instant they become eligible. Forehead
I thought Heart was already in...but yeah, always hated the Beastie Boys, do not agree with that selection. As for The Spinners...It's a Shame.

I loved Def Leppard. I have no idea why the hall votes the way they do. But Guns N Roses was the MJ of rock music videos. No one did them bigger or better. They had Slash. Between Slash and Axl, you can't think of many more defining band members of a group. Not trying to defend but rationalize. RHCP is to punk what Metallica is to Thrash. The Runaways aren't in there yet either. Even if they don't feel Joan Jett deserves to be in by herself, the Runaways should absolutely be in there. I do agree with you about Heart and Joan Jett. Busch1724
I can't argue against any (if we accept the fact this is a music HOF) but a couple that I mystify me as to why they aren't in...Stevie Ray Vaughn is the biggest in my mind. ---------- Post added December-8th-2011 at 07:09 AM ---------- It seems to me, GNR getting in on the first time out when Van Halen or many others couldn't, the HOF is trying to force a reunion of the band. Also they certainly seem to be trying to be more hip by putting in the Beastie Boys, GNR, and RHCP as a way to increase ratings and business. ---------- Post added December-8th-2011 at 07:10 AM ---------- There are acts like Stevie Ray, Priest, Deep Purple, etc. that are more deserving. Lombardi's_kid_brother
Personally, I'm very disappointed that Heart didn't get in. Yes, but in fairness, your taste in music is horrifying. I know people get caught up in semantics, but the people making the argument that it should only be "rock" bands are missing the point. If it's only "rock" bands, then no Motown act would be in the Hall of Fame. And that would be stupid. I think the Beasties deserve it because they were the act announced that Hip Hop was not going anywhere and - in fact - was going to become the music that kids from the suburbs listened to. And, then, shockingly, they evolved to be the group that probably best fused hip hop, punk, and pop in the 90s. And Paul's Boutique might still be the best rap album ever (and one that no one listened to ). The problems with the Hall of Fame have always been twofold: 1. Wenner has way way way way way too much influence. 2. The people on the board seem to think that music stopped mattering in 1971 and then briefly mattered again in 1977. They are not going to stop until everyone who released a 45 in the 60s gets in. Meanwhile, if you mattered between 71 and 85 and do no have a personal relationship with Wenner, you are done.
