So USA doesn't have a team in the World Cup.  I am trying to figure who out who to root for.

I always root for the underdog if my team is out so in this case that's Panama, other than that I'm German so I'll also be rooting for Die Mannschaft.

Just read an article on ESPN saying that Karius had a concussion after getting hit by Ramos, could explain his awful blunders. I still think the first one was just a mind blowingly stupid mistake, but the second one could very well be due to the concussion and trying to track the ball. But if he wasnt thinking clearly perhaps the first one as well.

Yanno', like most L'pool fans (not the absolute bellends that live to talk utter ****e on social media), I was completely at peace with the European Cup Final. Truth be told, like the vast majority out in Kiev, I'd moved on from it pretty much that night/ morning after the game. It's been amusing to see the reaction of Evertonians here and other fans on social media trying to nark at you and not being able to understand why you aren't totally down at losing the biggest game of all. When all you feel is pity for them that they can't understand the pride in an absolutely magnificent L'pool season and the continued upward trajectory the clubs on. Probably the highest it's been the entire PL era. The last time we lost the European Cup Final, in Athens in 2007, it felt like the end of something. The feeling this time is it's just the beginning of our cycle coming around again.

And then this. For the first time I'm now really narked. Mainly at that snide, cheating, underhand ****house Ramos. Not only did he take out our main player in a gutless, premeditated act that changed the entire course of game Madrid were being dominated in to that point, he's made sure by knocking our goalie out of a game he was playing real well in to that point. Something that's been sadly lost by the two mistakes that followed.

I've never been one for wishing ill/ injury on any player. But honestly, if someone was to go out and do Ramos the WC and say snap his leg in two I'd just think that's justice and karma catching up on you for a careers worth of base ****housery.

Here's looking forward to meeting Madrid and Ramos again next May in their own City for a full circle Scouse retribution!

It does bring football's continued, VERY lax attitude, to the games continued detriment, toward concussions back to the forefront again. By all accounts, he was assessed the changies after the game and presumably wasn't showing the symptoms for the delayed concussion to only become a serious concern 5 days later and have him sent the specialists. The game should have been stopped there and then and Karius fully evaluated the pitch. Even if he wasn't showing signs and they missed it, the officials and medical team have to have big questions asked of them surely? This isn't just guys health their playing with. It's potentially their lives. LONG overdue for football to act and put in place the proper protocol other sports have already. Not only in the initial diagnosis. But in the treatment and the amount of time guys are held out and not rushing them back as happens now.

You DON'T **** with head injuries. You just don't.

Talking of that absolute clown show of an organisation .....

Uefa refuse to sanction Roma for their 'fans' leaving an innocent, family man STILL, 6 weeks after the event, in a critical situation the hossey fighting for his life as it wouldn't be right to punish the club for the actions of a few outside the stadium and their control.

They refuse to take any action on Ramos after the fact in the final. Even though there's clear evidence of the depths he sank to.

But they have no problem dishing out charges and a fine for a minority of bellends lobbing a few bottles at a bus. Which apparently flys against their rhetoric on the Roma attack being as that was 'outside the stadium' too.

The absolute hypocrisy of that sham of a governing body id beyond being disgraceful now.

Of course Liverpool out with their excuses early and often. If it's not Ramos it's the pitch being too dry, or it being too windy at the St. Mary's, or the refs are bent because United received a penalty for a similar foul the week prior. There seems to be a feeling imbued throughout the club that the fault is never their own. Self evident in the fact that for such a former powerhouse the club hasn't won anything of note for as long as I can remember. And for some reason the man with 6 cup finals losses on the trot can't get it done even though he jumps around and gesticulates on the sidelines. Long may it continue.

I don't really have much to contribute on the rest of it, but this I can speak to.

It's pretty clear that Ramos realizes that it is VERY difficult for a referee to make the decision to send a player off, ESPECIALLY when that player is the captain of a super high profile team like Real Madrid. It's such a game changing move that to get the decision wrong invites incredible scrutiny in the international media, and probably affects one's future job prospects. It's so much easier to give a yellow or nothing.

He uses that to his advantage, and beats up on opposition players. In the last Classico, I counted at least four instances he could have been given a yellow, possibly a red, and he managed to stay in. He's smart enough not to outright flail at someone... he just takes cheap shots.

Despite all of that, though, he STILL gets reds all the time. The joke among Barcelona fans is that it's not El Classico until Ramos gets a red card. That should say something about how dirty he actually is.

I don't know what the solution is... He's a star player on a media darling and EUFA cash cow, so it'd be asking for a lot more integrity than most international football officials seem to have to actually do anything about it.

Therein lies the answer you seek. ;)

This was his unsurprising, scumbag response today:

Preece writes some excellent pieces on goalkeepers from his own experience. Always get the feeling he's a loss to the game as he'd make an excellent goalie coach. In theory, at least reading him.

Good read, blows me away how people seem to be reacting to his concussion. Though maybe that's just because the last few years with the NFL it quickly came to the forefront in the US and taken more seriously.

I had a bad one a couple of years back that I didn't notice at first and it's no joke, rather worrying.

The absolute imbeciles, to be VERY kind, on social media mate who aren't worth the time of day. Which then leads to other clubs 'fans' steaming in and being just as pathetic.

Karius got the appreciation he deserves a week last Saturday
in the ground when he had the dignity to front up to his mistakes. As much as many were, naturally, fuming at the costly mistakes, the respect he got for not only doing that when he came over tearful at the end but for his part in an absolutely wonderful season from L'pool FC was, rightfully, acknowledged and applauded. The confirmation of this just makes you feel for him even more.

That means FAR more than any knobheads pontificating from behind a 'puter screen spouting low life, despicable ****e.

Sorry to read you had a head injury. Glad it didn't turn into anything too serious. Really can't stress enough if anyone does get a bang on the head, however innocuous you might think it is, get it checked out. You just can't F around when it comes to head injuries.

Never heard of him but sound whilst we wait for the posturing to stop with Lyon. You can never have enough forward options.

Always loved Ferguson's mantra at Utd. Often they didn't need another forward but he'd invariably add one no matter how good the attack had been each summer. Never have enough goalscorers/ forward players.

I usually don't chime in much on these things but that's absolutely not true. They sniffed around last summer but they really only need a backup at that specific midfield position. Fred is a different player and more of what United we're looking for in a midfielder at present time. Fabinho can also play right back and I'm not a huge Valencia fan but Mourinho is, which is why he's bringing in a cheaper player more fitted for a backup role. There was no way United splunk down that money for a backup to Matic.

It's admirable you remember who United were interested in that long ago because I sure don't, but in this case they just weren't going to pay that price for a player that wouldn't have started regularly. It's not a coincidence that Fred is more of a box-to-box midfielder. Both have a chance to be terrific players but they're different.
