laurent,

It never got done. The WP is reporting today that talks are stalled over a clause regarding a jump in pay should Powell be a starter. He could easily leave now.

Powell threw a little hissy fit about getting more money for being a starter, and now he's going to test the market... but the market and the draft is very deep at DT, so I don't know what he's thinking as a relatively untested guy.

I think that now that Shade's gone, we need to replace Terrell. We'll probably have to do that in FA though, not the draft.

Powell may be in for a shock because I didnt think he was all that and at his age, size and lack of productivity he is looking at being a backup on other teams.

Powell and Gardener test the waters an in shape BDW who is willing to renegotiate, this could be a blessing in disguise since it should mean we draft a solid D linemen in the first round instead of flash.

What did you expect me to say about the o-line?

BTW, in case you didn't know, I was talking to this guy at the supermarket, and he said he was Wilbert Brown's cousin's girlfriend's doctor's mistress' husband, and that Wilbert has been working out really hard and expects to be the next Larry Allen.

So don't worry guys, we're set at that spot.

these signings might be minor snippets in the papers now, but I think in the long run that Ohalete and Pierce might end up being key performers for this team.

Ohalete has very good physical skills and sems to have a knack for being around the ball.

Pierce could be a starter at OLB with an injury to Armstead in 2003. And one would think that a good performance by Pierce as a spot player in 2003 could lead to the release of Armstead in 2004 when his cap numbers become less manageable at age 34.

My guess is we havent resigned them to multi year deals yet because they are just EFA's. So by signing them to one year deals we are still making them earn their money since none of them have COMPLETELY proven that they should get multi year deals yet except maybe Ohalete. This way it makes sure they arent complacent this year and that they werent just like one year flops. And if they do well again then they will just be RFA's which means we can still sign them to multi year deals next year withouth the risk of losing them to other teams.

They can turn down the offer. and then sit out the year and get the same offer next year.

Next year when they are restricted free agents, the skins will decide what to offer them based on thier play. If they perform well, most likely they'd get the high end deal, meaning teams would have to give up a 1 and a 3 to sign them away. The middle deal would mean giving the skins a 1st, and the low end deal (minimum offer) would mean giving up a draft pick equal to where they were drafted. (Which in the case of Ohalete would be nothing as he wasn't drafted.)

So there's no reason to bankroll them till next year.
